Our internet database contains Ethiopian adoption information provided by adopted peopl

e/adoptive parents and birth families who are looking for each other. Our goal is to restore family, cultural, and adoption history to adoptees through search, reunion, and ongoing connection in Ethiopia. BF-EAC is the only organization committed to giving a voice to Ethiopian birth families while providing services focused on their well being post adoption. We offer meaningful guidance regarding reunion and ongoing contact with their adopted children; we explain the system through which their children were adopted; and we listen to their stories. Guiding Principles

Ethiopian adoptees and natural families are the focus of our work. Ethiopian adoptees have a right to know their roots, and their histories belong to them. Ethiopian families deserve their own post adoption services on their own terms, independent of their relationship status with adoptive families. Our social workers are devoted to their concerns. Adoptive parents can be a valuable and cherished support system for their adopted child in search and reunion. Adoptive parents of minor children are guardians of precious family history. Adoption search and reunion is a personal matter. We do this work in the name of justice for adoptees and their Ethiopian families.

This is so true. I think of this and feel the frustration daily as I see the adoption community rally around certain projects or individuals and not others. We as adoptive parents (generally speaking) aren’t interested in adult adoptees who struggle, but will send tons of money to relatively rich Ethiopians for a car because they are “like family,” or for adoptive parents to adopt more kids and so on.

What about the kids already here who are struggling or dumped? Why don’t we take care of them? This is something I have been saying and silently steaming about for years. We have to care about the grown adoptees WE got over here, even if they are not our kids. They are all “our kids” in a way. And they have big needs. Serious needs! Anyone who has grown kids knows that challenges get bigger with age. It’s impossible to start a life without resources and history and emotional support. I agree with this article so much I want to scream. Thank you for saying it Aselefech.
