Recently, the Ministry of Health distributed Truenat molecular diagnostic machines to peripheral health facilities to expand access to rapid TB and drug-resistant TB testing. To ensure these point-of-care machines become operational immediately, the USAID Urban TB LON II Project conducted a successful four-day Truenat MTB/RIF Dx technical training in Bishoftu.
A total of 37 laboratory professionals from six project implementation regions gathered to master this advanced, battery-operated micro-PCR system. Through intensive, hands-on sessions, participants gained expertise in complex sample preparation, DNA extraction, and critical troubleshooting techniques to prevent common cartridge blockage errors.
Equipped with the practical skills to deliver highly accurate results in under two hours, these professionals are now ready to launch testing services in strict accordance with national guidelines.
Currently, 99 Truenat machines are deployed across Ethiopia, bridging the diagnostic gap at the community level and significantly strengthening our health system's reach.
