Buen Camino Talks meets Juan (DisCamino) and Nacho (B-Life)! 🇪🇸
Experiencing the end of a Camino de Santiago in the Plaza del Obradoiro is always magical, but what we witnessed this time was a true gift! We had the immense honor of crossing paths with an incredible group of pilgrims who had just completed their goal. It was one of those encounters that leaves a mark on you and reminds you of the true essence of life.
We had the big pleasure to chat with Juan, organizer of DisCamino, and Nacho, president of B-Life organization. Both organizations have joined forces in this adventure to prove their great motto:
“DON’T LET ANYONE SAY YOU CAN’T!”
The story behind a dream: How DisCamino was born
This beautiful initiative, driven by its president Javier Pitillas, was born in August 2009. It all started thanks to Gerardo, a deafblind young man from Vigo who managed to complete his first Camino de Santiago pedaling on a Copilot (a donated tandem tricycle).
Upon reaching the Cathedral square, after celebrating the success of the route, Gerardo said some words to Javier that changed everything:
“Javier, look for more people with problems like me to do the Camino for many years.”
And he certainly did! What started as one young man’s wish has become an unstoppable movement: to date, DisCamino has organized 142 Caminos for 850 pilgrims, all thanks to the unconditional support of their 101 volunteers.
We want to take this opportunity to give an immense thank you to the long list of major collaborators and companies supporting this project. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who, through their donations and great commitment, makes this dream a reality on every single Camino. DisCamino and B-Life show us, in the most elegant and purest way, that the Camino de Santiago truly is for everyone💛💛💛
