🕊️✨ ECHOES — Peace-building through theatre

We recently sent Juliana and Felix to Italy for the ECHOES training course, hosted by our friends at Lunaria 🇮🇹

ECHOES brought together youth workers from across Europe to explore peace-building and conflict management through non-formal education and theatre-based techniques 🎭
A space to develop facilitation skills, exchange realities from different contexts, and experiment with creative methods to bring back to their communities and youth work practice 💜

We're looking forward to hearing what they bring back! 👀

🌍 In our exploration of Futures Literacy, we discover that seeing the future as open and shapeable changes how we act today.

Unlike thinking about the future as a set of predictions, Futures Literacy encourages us to look at multiple possibilities — including the futures we prefer, the futures that are likely, and even the ones that currently seem unlikely.

💡 The GreenComp framework highlights that imagining future scenarios helps us anticipate challenges and prepare creative responses. This requires both logical analysis and disciplined imagination — blending what we know with what we can envision.

🌱 One way to fuel this imagination is through storytelling and alternative visions like solarpunk — a genre of ideas and art that imagines optimistic, regenerative futures powered by renewable energy, community resilience, and collaboration.

💭 Reflection:
Pick one aspect of life (transport, food, housing, work) and imagine it in a sustainable future:
🛞 What does it look like in a preferred future?
🔄 What changes would be needed in the present to make that future possible?
Write a short “future story” — even a few sentences are enough. It helps expand your capacity to think creatively about sustainability.

💬 Join our free online workshop on 3.06.2026 at 6 PM CEST to explore Futures Literacy and practice English in a warm, international space.

🎤🎨 HIP-HOP STATE OF MIND — Andrej's story

We sent Andrej to Ribes de Freser to take part in the Youth Exchange "Hip-Hop State of Mind" organised by our partners Back to theRoots. We asked him to tell us how it went. We'll let him take it from here 👇🏽

"Ever since my first introduction to the scene from DOPE in Leipzig, my Hip was looking for more Hop. And that's how I ended up in Ribes de Freser. This time we were bringing Hip-Hop culture back to the roots. Based in a rural town, "Hip-Hop State of Mind" was quite a contrast to environment where Hip-Hop usually strives. However, after exploring graffiti, rapping, and dance, we headed to the streets. Our first stop was a highschool, where local youth got involved. After revealing the final results of our action, let me tell you, some of these kids should be scouted by talent agencies! We didn't forget to work on our own stuff either. Songs were recorded, graffiti's were sprayed, connections were made, and a music video is coming soon! After finishing the project with a big Jam, where all the locals were invited, I can only describe this project as Hip-Hop in all it's flawed and messy, but rebellious awesomeness. A bit corny, but true 😉"

🌍 This month in our GreenComp Year series we explore Futures Literacy — a competence that helps us imagine and shape sustainable futures rather than just reacting to what comes next.

According to the GreenComp - European sustainability competence framework, Futures Literacy means being able to envision alternative future scenarios and identify steps to reach the futures we want to create. This is not about predicting one fixed future — it’s about exploring a range of possible, probable and preferred futures so that we can make better decisions today.

✨ Futures Literacy invites you to ask:
What future do I expect?
What other futures are possible?
What future do I actually want — and what steps can I take today to get closer to it?

🎬 Inspiration:
Explore the idea of reconnecting with life across time through concepts like Active Hope by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone — which encourages us to imagine futures not as threats, but as possibilities we co-create.
💭 Reflection exercise:

Think about the year 2050 — what does a thriving, sustainable world look like to you?

Write down:
🌱 3 things you hope to see in that future
🛠 2 ways your actions now could help bring it about
Futures are shaped by imagination as much as by action.

🌍 Many sustainability challenges are not just complicated: they are complex.
This means there is no single clear definition of the problem. And no single main solution.

💡 One helpful way to visualise this comes from framework of the 5 dimensions of regeneration.

They describe sustainability through four interconnected dimensions:
🌿 Ecological
🤝 Social
💰 Economic
🧭 Cultural / Worldview
And a fifth element connecting them all:

🌀 Systemic thinking
Because no dimension exists in isolation.

Even if we often cannot address the root causes of complex problems immediately, keeping them visible, and integrating them in a developing frame, matters.

This helps us to:
avoid short-term fixes that create long-term harm
align actions with deeper transformation
stay connected to a bigger vision
As Joanna Macy describes in The Great Turning, change happens through many complementary paths. Some

key paths are:
practical actions
systemic change
shifts in consciousness

💭 Reflection:

Think about a sustainability issue you care about.
Which dimensions are involved?
Which ones are often ignored?
How would a more holistic framing change your approach?
You don’t need to solve everything. But how you see the problem already shapes the future you move toward.

☀️ is here! 🌱🎭

At the end of January, we met up in Galicia with Asociación Sociocultural BreGal , Associazione Kora and ART Market for the kick-off of our new KA2 Cooperation Partnership project : The Solarpunk Larping Experience 💥

This one is a continuation of our beloved SolaRPG. We’re expanding the SOLA universe, going deeper into how solarpunk fits into our educational work, and experimenting with LARPing as a learning tool 😁

It was a really nice and quite intense week. We went through everything that’s coming in the next months, shared ideas, bonded as a group (of course, escape rooms were involved again 👀), and took part in really valuable training sessions with such an inspiring organization like Kidcode 🤖

We also took some time to enjoy Galicia properly, including a tasting of local, fair trade products 🍲

This is just the beginning, and we’re really happy to be on this journey for the next two years ✨

We’ll keep you posted along the way, as this is a process we want to open up, and at some point, we’d love some of you to test it out 😉

Big thanks to BreGal for hosting and to all partners for being part of it.
More SOLA coming soon 👀🌱

Continuing our exploration of Problem Framing, let’s look at a practical tool:

🎭 the 6 Thinking Hats approach.

Often, we assume there is one “correct” way to understand a problem.
But what if the issue is not the problem itself - but the lens we use?
The 6 hats method invites us to look at the same situation from different perspectives:

Neutral / Factual - What do we actually observe?
Emotions - How do we feel about it?
Critical/Cautious - What could go wrong?
Possibilities/Benefits - What opportunities are there?
Creativity - What new ideas are possible?
Process/Overview - How do we organise our thinking?

💡 This matters because:
Different people frame the same problem in different ways.
And conflicts often arise not from the issue itself, but from incompatible framings.

💭 A critical question:
Are we disagreeing about solutions or about what the problem actually is?

🌍 In sustainability, this is everywhere:
Is plastic pollution a waste issue, a consumption issue, or a production issue?
Is energy transition a technological challenge or a social one?
Each framing leads to different actions.

✨ This is where problem framing becomes powerful - and delicate.
If we simplify too much, we miss important dimensions. If we overcomplicate, we may feel stuck and not act at all.

💭 Reflection:
Take a current issue you see in the news or your community.
Try to “wear” at least 3 different hats.
What changes in your understanding?
What new possibilities appear?
Sometimes, better thinking is not about finding answers but expanding the question.

💬 Join our free online workshop on 29.04.2026 at 6 PM CEST to explore this topic more deeply and practice English together.
