Omid-e Punjab e.V.

Omid-e Punjab e.V. Omid-e Punjab e.V. was a German non-profit organisation supporting a home for adults with mental disabilities in Lahore, Pakistan. It is now permanently closed.

Permanently closed.

In July 2011, two students from Germany traveled to Pakistan for research purposes. Their paths crossed with the Sisters of Charity of St. Jeanne Antide, members of a small Catholic order. The congregation runs a center for adults with mental disabilities in a suburb of Lahore. The centre offers a home to 90 men and women. Most of them were brought here by their poverty-stricken families. Some wer

e picked up from the streets by the police. Often the sisters have to turn down requests by patients who are tied to wheelchairs because they lack the facilities and equipment to cater to such special needs. Once a new resident arrives he receives a bath, fresh clothing and a wholesome meal. Later he is examined by a doctor who also prescribes medication. Back home the sisters watch over the residents' personal hygiene, balanced nutrition and general health. We support the center by funding major renovations, solar energy solutions, water filters, training units for the caregivers, new furniture, clothing, food, medication and other essential needs.
