The NSU President Ms. Pamela Odhiambo and Council Members came together bid farewell to our 1st Vice President, Raymond Brandes, as he takes on new responsibilities at ECA. Raymond has been a dedicated and valued member of the Council, and his contributions will be greatly missed. Addis is gaining while Nairobi is losing NSU and its leadership wish him every success in this next chapter as he relocates from Nairobi to Addis.

We trust he will carry the NSU spirit with him and perhaps remember us when things get too quiet there!

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear colleague, Fernando Flores. A dedicated team member (CCISUA) and a strong voice in staff representation, he brought passion, integrity, and a larger-than-life presence to our work. He will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Today, NSU President Ms. Pamela Odhiambo attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new conference facility project at the United Nations Office at Nairobi in Gigiri. The ceremony was presided over by the United Nations Secretary General Mr. António Guterresn, Deputy Secretary General Ms. Amina Mohammed and H.E. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya. This occasion marks a significant milestone in the continued development of UNON as a major United Nations hub in Africa

Yesterday, the NSU President Ms. Pamela Odhiambo, joined Ms. Inger Andersen ED, UNEP, Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach ED, UN-Habitat and Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura, DG UNON at a flag-off ceremony in Nairobi for participants heading to Crete, Greece for UNIAG 2026. As they depart to compete and foster unity through sport, the UN Nairobi leadership encouraged them to carry the UN flag high and proudly represent shared values of teamwork, excellence, and global solidarity. And to bring home Medals.

Today, the Staff Union President together with members of the Council met with UNJSPF Director, Client Services Mr. Aliamane Bacar Said, to discuss issues affecting staff at the duty station regarding ongoing Pension Fund reviews and supporting staff during periods of uncertainty. Key topics included structured training for Council members on pension matters, technological improvements like the e-Pension platform and UN Digital ID and increasing capacity to assist with high-volume pension cases.

The President of the Nairobi Staff Union, together with representatives from outposted offices, joined staff for the Annual General Meeting.
Reflections focused on the past term, highlighting both achievements and challenges. Despite the difficult period in 2025, the President acknowledged key achievements by the Council, including constructive advocacy, sustained dialogue with management, and the representation of staff interests under complex circumstances.
The impact of UN80 and other organizational changes was also addressed.
She reaffirmed her commitment to unity, collaboration, and staff engagement, while looking ahead to the next chapter for the Staff Union and the organization.
She thanked all staff for their participation and encouraged everyone to embrace unity, noting that together we remain stronger and more resilient.

Yesterday at the UN Gigiri HQ, we marked a special milestone during the Long Service Award Ceremony organized by UNEP, UNON, UN-Habitat, in partnership with the NSU and Offices Away from HQ. The ceremony was attended by NSU President Ms. Pamela Odhiambo together with Ms. Inger Andersen, ED UNEP, Ms. Anacláudia Rosbach, ED UN-Habitat and Ms. Zainab Bangura, DG UNON.
This was a meaningful milestone as we celebrated and recognized colleagues who have diligently served the United Nations over the years. Their dedication, resilience, and commitment to the UN’s mission are truly inspiring. Their journeys remind us that institutions are built by people whose commitment endures through time and change.
Congratulations to all the awardees and thank you for your invaluable service.
