One bad tournament on Lake Erie changed everything for Cody Pixley.

After getting smoked pulling spinners while other guys ran forward-facing sonar, he told his teammates: “If you ever see me with long rods in my boat again, I want you to slap the crap out of me.”

Now it’s forward-facing or bust. Is live scope the future of competitive walleye fishing, or is traditional still relevant? Drop your thoughts below!

Fishing has a way of keeping you humble.

You can spend days studying maps, watching the weather, trying new spots, and still come home wondering what happened. That’s part of what makes those special days so memorable.

Every once in a while, everything comes together. The fish cooperate, the laughs come easy, and for a few hours you’re reminded why you fell in love with fishing in the first place. 🤩

We had one of those nights this past weekend on the lake we grew up on. Everything came together, and we had an incredible evening on Big Mac. The wind blew 40+ mph both days, so we decided to get out on the water for the night bite, and it turned out to be a great decision.

Pulling Berkley Fishing #7 Flicker Minnows, we boated fourteen walleyes over 27 inches, with the biggest clocking in at 11.38 pounds. 🎯

What an incredible fishery Lake McConaughy has become over the past few years. Those fish are just built different. Almost every walleye we landed was between 27 and 29 inches and weighed 9 to 10 pounds. You would have thought we were catching the same fish over and over again.

The lake is extremely healthy and producing some absolute giants. Every fish we caught was released and swam off to grow even bigger for the next lucky angler. There is no doubt in my mind that the Nebraska state-record walleye is swimming around in there somewhere. 🐷

Those epic trips are even better when they’re spent with the same buddies you grew up fishing with. The fish are great, but the memories are what stick with you forever.

It’s a trip we’ll be reminiscing about over beers for a very long time. Thanks, Lake McConaughy. We’ll see you again soon. 🤝

Tournament fishing isn’t all big checks and trophy fish. Cody Pixley opens up about the brutal drive home after a tough tournament - 24 hours in the truck with no radio, just your own thoughts telling you “I’m not good enough, why am I even doing this?” If you’ve ever competed and had a rough one, you know exactly what he’s talking about. The mental game is REAL.

Mississippi River Gold 🌊🐟

The Mississippi River continues to kick out some incredible fish, and this one is no exception. Big smiles and big walleyes tend to go hand in hand, especially when a healthy river giant slides into the net. 😎

Fish like this are what keep anglers coming back for “just one more cast.” Thick, powerful, and built for the current, this walleye is a perfect example of why the Mississippi is one of the premier trophy fisheries in the country. 🔥

Huge congratulations on an absolute beauty and a day that won’t be forgotten anytime soon! 👏

Tom Huynh grew up on a cattle farm in Arkansas, moved to Minnesota, and spent 20 years running nail salons before he ever stepped foot in a fishing boat.

Then in his 30s he bought his first boat - and a few years later he was hoisting the NWT Championship trophy. His secret? No bad habits, no old-school traditions to unlearn, just pure electronics and instinct. This is one of the coolest origin stories we’ve heard. Tom is now the king of FFS. 🎣
