This is your podium from Saturday.

🥇 1st place
4 Sons of a King

🥈 2nd place
CommUNITY 204

🥉 3rd place
Ben Team

Every team in that gym came to compete, and these three earned it. Congratulations to the players, and to the families and friends cheering from the sidelines all day.

To our champions - enjoy those PS5s and the prize money. You earned every bit of it.

To the MVP of each game - enjoy those Smoke’s Poutinerie Albert gift cards!

To the winner of the iPad - you went up against a whole gym and were the last one standing. That was earned.

And to every player who laced up on Saturday: you made this day what it was. Dyrrone would have been proud of all of you.

Thank you to shotsby.jay_ for these photos. You caught the day beautifully.

In loving memory of Dyrrone Stone. #30 🕊️

🧡🏀🏆

This is what Saturday looked like.

9 teams. 36 kids. A full gym, great basketball, and everyone left a winner.

If you didn’t have the privilege of knowing Dyrrone, the spirit of this tournament was your introduction. He would have been right in the middle of it. And honestly, it felt like he was. ✨

Thank you to every player, family, volunteer, staff member and sponsor who made this day happen.

And thank you to A***n for capturing it the way you did. We got goosebumps watching it, and we hope you do too.

More photos and news coming soon. See you all again.

In loving memory of Dyrrone Stone. #30 🕊️🙏🏽

3-point contest up next!

🧡🏀🕊️This day wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community.

We wanted every young person who walked through the MERC doors to feel welcomed, celebrated and reminded that they matter.

These businesses & organizations supported the vision: jerseys, medals, food, haircuts, prizes. All covered because of the generosity of others.

And honestly, most of you said yes before we even finished asking. 💯

Thank you for showing up for a 15-year-old you may never have gotten the chance to meet. 🙏🏽

Tomorrow is for him. 🧡

In loving memory of Dyrrone Stone. 🧡

Dyrrone was 15. He was becoming a leader among the other kids, and he loved the game of basketball. His dream was to play for the WarChiefs, an all-Indigenous men’s traveling basketball team one day.

On September 19 we’re filling a gym in his name. 3x3 basketball tournament for youth ages 14-17 years old. Contests, game console and cash prizes, swag bags, food, drinks and haircuts. All free. Just the way Dyrrone would want it.

Huge props to WarChiefs, Amiel Reyes, Next Step Wellness for lending their time and skills to support young people for the day.

Also a massive thank you to The Link: Youth and Family Supports in Manitoba, IRTC, Spence Neighbourhood, 𝐒𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 and someone who asked to stay anonymous. And to the MERC for opening the doors - the gym where Kurius came up, and where Dyrrone came up too.

Play hard. Honour Dyrrone. Build community.

Questions? DM us. Registration link in bio. Closes September 1st so register your team now! 🏀

Before June 6, the Winnipeg Sun wrote: “You are not forgotten, you are not disposable, and you are not limited to the systems or circumstances around you.”

That was our promise.
This is what it looked like when we kept it. 🌱

Twenty young men. Elders who opened the day with prayer and closed it with teachings. A co-creator who held space for emotional regulation and made sure every young man felt safe enough to open up. A community strategist who made sure every detail - from shoes to bus tickets - was thought through with care. A youth leader who, alongside The WarChiefs, brought mentoring, confidence, and teamwork to the court and beyond. Ameil and Abu at the chairs. Volunteers who handled the little things that made everything run smoothly. A videographer/photographer who captured all those candid moments. Sponsors and donors who didn’t just give - they showed up too.

New shoes. Fresh cuts. Full hearts.

A Village in Motion: Pathways to Belonging happened - and it was everything we hoped for and more.

Thank you to Steven Sukkau and the for telling this story before it even began. Link to the original article in bio.

A Village in Motion is a series. Reclaim Her Path is next - fall/winter 2026, built for Indigenous women and girls. The village keeps growing.

Belong. Create. Connect.
