We’re excited to announce the YMCA 19th Annual Youth Hoops Tournament, happening June 12–13, 2026 at the Brookfield YMCA in Seton, Calgary, Alberta!

🏀 This year’s tournament will feature:
- 3-on-3 competition
- Male & female divisions for U15 and U17

Cash prizes, medals, trophies, swag bags, and more!

🔥Roots & Rising Collective has partnered with .continuous Williams to introduce an 18+ 1v1 division for both male and female players. Come showcase your skills and compete to become our first-ever 1v1 Youth Hoops Champion!

THE CONVERGENCE

There was a moment - standing in the middle of a busy kitchen, watching a young person find their confidence for the first time - that everything clicked.

Keesha’s Kitchen wasn’t just a restaurant. It was the place where three things Keesha had always carried separately finally converged into one:

🌱 Small business - the operations, the strategy, the grind, the joy of building something yours

🌱 Young leaders - young people the world hadn’t caught up to yet, ages 16-21, learning everything from kitchen prep to payroll to public relations

🌱 Community - a gathering place where food, culture, mentorship, and belonging lived under one roof

No program. No curriculum. Just Keesha doing what she’d always done and finally seeing it all reflected back at once.

“This is my heart space. This is what I’m here to do.”

It all started here. In this kitchen. With these young people.

From business planning and marketing strategy, to website and logo design - yes, she learned to code during those shutdown days 💻 - all the way back to her beloved Barbados, where a life-changing trip brought her full circle to support her community roots. 🌴🖤

THE EXPERIENCE

Before RRC was a consulting business, our founder Keesha was already doing the work.

As a healthcare leader and community professional, she spent years sitting at tables that mattered - advancing equity, addressing gaps in the system, and advocating fiercely for the people those systems too often overlooked.

In between that, she was an entrepreneur. Running a full restaurant operation. Feeding her community. Mentoring youth. Building something from the ground up with heart, hustle, and zero shortcuts.

Then the pandemic hit. And like every business owner — she had to pivot.

When the doors closed, something unexpected happened.

The skills she’d built - operations, strategy, people, systems - didn’t disappear. They evolved.

Out of that season of stillness came something new: a calling to walk alongside other business owners navigating their own complexity.

She didn’t just survive that chapter. She came out with more to give. 👇🏽

In business, everything comes down to relationships.

Vendors, staff, stakeholders, customers, partners - it’s never just about the transaction. It’s about who you’re in relationship with and how you show up for each other.

So before we go any further - you need to know who you’re dealing with.

Let us introduce our founder.

Meet Keesha. Mother. Grandmother. Matriarch. Elder.

Born on the unceded lands of Tiohtià:ke (Montreal) and raised on Treaty 1 territory by migrant parents from the tiny island of Barbados 🌴 - Keesha was shaped by many worlds from the very beginning.

She was adopted into and claimed by her chosen family from the Opaskawayak Cree Nation on Treaty 5, and carries many relations with First Nations lineage.

She has always lived at the intersections. And that has always been her greatest strength.
