Autistic Pride Day is celebrated on June 18th as a part of the LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. The symbol of Autistic Pride Day is the rainbow infinity symbol. This symbolizes acceptance of all types of neurodiversity, sexual preferences, and gender expression. Autistic Pride Day is led by those who are part of the autism spectrum and promotes advocacy for more widespread acceptance.

We’ve been quiet on here the past little bit. Time to fill you in on what we’ve been up to! Summer feels like it’s in full gear already with festivals, nature walks and trying to remember to hydrate…

With the nicer weather comes thewillowtreemarket visits, arcade stop-in’s and summer dances in Kingsville. This week we were also able to check out Lakeside Park in Tecumseh. The new space has a fire pits, bocci courts and an awesome water feature.

The events are rollllllllin’ in as well with MAPLE LEAF PRO Wrestling taking Friday nights’ centre stage. The athleticism, excitement and passionate fans filled the room for an action packed night of flips (and just a few broken tables).

If that wasn’t enough, .ca2025 was Fort Malden on Saturday! It was even bigger and better than last year. Birds of prey, jousting, comedy, vendors, magic… and mmm sweet cupcakes 🤤 One of the venders even had specialty pepperoni and we got to sample crocodile, kangaroo and bison!

THIS!

People with disabilities should have the right to marry without losing their income, benefits, or health insurance.

⭐️ In many countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, people with disabilities are discouraged from getting married or are pushed to divorce in order to get or maintain their income, benefits, and health insurance.

📍 In the United States specifically, it's because benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid are needs-based and focus on current assets and income. When someone marries someone not in those programs, their partner's assets and income are combined with theirs. It is because of the combined income that many married people with disabilities lose their SSI and Medicaid benefits. For people with disabilities who are already married, many have been forced to divorce and live separately in order to keep benefits that they need to survive.

⭐️ People with disabilities shouldn't be forced to choose between the benefits they need to survive and their partners. 🌙”

The text reads:

“In case I’ve not said this recently:

If you find yourself on a committee discussing the needs of a particular group of people, but you look around the room & don’t see anyone from that group, you should be HIGHLY skeptical of any ‘conclusions’ reached.”
