Yesterday, we began our summer series, Noticing God, with an introduction to the theme. Together, we reflected on how easy it can be to feel as though we’ve missed God in the rhythms of everyday life, especially when spiritual practices that once seemed meaningful now feel distant or unhelpful. As a community, we began exploring practices that have helped people notice, live alongside, and experience the divine, offering one another hope and invitation along the way as we seek to become more aware of God’s presence in our midst.

Yesterday, we reflected on how the Gospel of Jesus continues to unfold, with still more to be revealed. While we may not fully understand all that is to come, we explored the encouragement found in scripture that reminds us we are participating with God in the ongoing renewal of the “very good Gospel.” Together, we considered the mystery of the Gospel and the hope of the renewal of all things.

This past Sunday, we continued our Unfolding Gospel series by asking what might seem like an obvious question: What does Jesus have to do with the gospel? Together, we reflected on whether we can explain our understanding of “the gospel” through the story and teachings of Jesus himself—not only through the writings of Paul, Peter, or John. As we explored these questions, we considered how Jesus doesn’t simply fit into the gospel story, but stands at its very centre.

What does Jesus have to do with the gospel? This may sound like a ridiculous question. The answer may feel irritatingly obvious. But are we able to explain our ideas around the gospel from the story of Jesus? Are we able to explain what we mean by 'the gospel' without Paul, or Peter, or John? Continuing our series on The Unfolding Gospel, we take a look at how Jesus not only fits in, but sits at the core of the gospel story.

Earlier today, we explored the idea that some of the most unsettling parts of our tradition might actually carry deep hope. Together, we looked at the “destruction” described in the Gospel—not as the destruction of people, but as the dismantling of everything that keeps us from fully experiencing and extending the love we were made for.

We reflected on a vision of judgment that moves us beyond fear and toward radical wholeness, learning to trust the fierce, refining light of Love to complete the work it has begun.
