CE SOIR 🎭 TONIGHT

𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐄 𝟐𝟔 𝐉𝐔𝐈𝐍 🌟 STO Union’s “NEW LIGHT” festivities continue with “𝑾𝑬 𝑫𝑬𝑷𝑬𝑵𝑫 𝑶𝑵 𝒀𝑶𝑼” 8pm/20h @ Kaffé 1870! 🎟️ Pre-show tickets are sold-out, but lucky for you there will be a VERY limited amount of tickets available at the door this evening!

We Depend on You is a collaborative creation bringing together professional artists, educators, and the grade six students from École Wakefield School. Led by Nathalie Coutou (masks), Anachnid (music), Jean Grand-Maître (choreography) and Nadia Ross (video), the project brings together original music, masks and choreography to celebrate the interdependence of living beings connected to the Gatineau River. Developed over many months with the students, the work reflects on ecology, creativity, responsibility and interdependence as an act of love.

The evening opens with an original performance by Elizabeth Logue, and also includes the premiere of THE CHAIR, a short documentary following a youth-led initiative, supported by members of Transition écologique La Pêche – Coalition for a Green New Deal, that installs a permanent chair for children in municipal council chambers, ensuring their voices are represented in civic decision-making.

Anachnid
Anachnid is an Oji-Cree multidisciplinary musician and songwriter based in MTL, blending electro-pop, indie, trap, soul, hip-hop and experimental sounds. Her album Dreamweaver was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize, and she won the 2021 Félix Award for Indigenous Artist of the Year and the 2019 SOCAN Indigenous Songwriter of the Year Award.

Nathalie Coutou (Khewa)
Nathalie Coutou was born on a farm with a kennel of over 800 sled dogs in the province of Quebec. As a child she was given the freedom to explore her imagination and was inspired by her French-European father’s artistry alongside her mother’s enduring joy and Mi’kmaq ancestry. Painting and sketching soon became her way to express herself.

As a graphic arts graduate and alongside her entrepreneurial career, Nathalie was involved in many projects. For eight years, in the heart of the her illage, she organized the Wakefield Harvest Festival”, an event bringing together thousands of people to celebrate the harvest with the spirit of thankfulness. In 2018 she launched COUTOU COLLECTION which features her artwork on wearable art that is made in Canada.

Jean Grand-Maitre
Jean Grand-Maître, C.M., is a renowned Canadian choreographer and artistic leader born in the Outaouais region. He trained in modern and classical dance in Toronto and Montreal and has created more than 100 ballets for major companies worldwide. From 2002 to 2022 he served as Artistic Director of Alberta Ballet, expanding its repertoire and international profile, and was named a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to dance.

Elizabeth Logue
Elizabeth is Algonquin /Irish (Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation). Born at an early age she grew up on the banks of the Kichi Zìbi and the Pasapkedjiwanong Zìbi and the Te-nagàdino-zìbi. She is passionate about community. Over her more than 20 years as a federal public servant she has worked on building policies that work for community. Elizabeth also has trained in theatre and has been a member of the Ottawa based Shakespeare company A Company of Fools and Commedia D’ell Arte Troupe as well as the one show wonder Indigenous Theatre Company Code Red.

In 2024 she performed her one person show KEEP MARS RED as part of Ottawa’s UnderCurrents. She is also an Arts festival producer and member of Earles Hall Collective. She is a co-consipirator on many projects ‎on the unceded Algonquin Anishnaabeg territory in Wakefield where she lives with her husband Alasdair and two children Calum 18 and Mairi 16.

Nadia Ross
Nadia Ross is the founder (1992) and artistic director of STO Union (stounion.com), a company dedicated to the creation of multi-disciplinary works inspired by performance, live art, and theatre.

Ross’ projects consistently challenge what is a stage, and who or what can be on it. She has received awards and prizes, most notably Canada’s largest theatre prize, the Siminovitch, which celebrated her resilience and visionary practice.

Ce programme est une coproduction avec la Galerie Khewa, qui mêle musique, masques, chorégraphie et vidéo dans une œuvre collaborative à grande échelle créée avec les élèves de 6e année de l’École Wakefield. Avec Anachnid (musique), Jean Grand-Maître (chorégraphie), Nathalie Coutou (masques) et Nadia Ross (vidéo). En collaboration avec les classes de 6e année de l’École Wakefield, des bénévoles et le personnel.

Ce projet propose une réflexion sur l’interdépendance et la relation entre les êtres vivants et la rivière Gatineau, réunissant des artistes professionnels, des éducateurs et les élèves de 6e année de l’École Wakefield. Élaborée au fil de plusieurs mois avec les élèves, cette œuvre aborde l’écologie, la créativité, la responsabilité et l’interdépendance comme un acte d’amour.

La soirée s'ouvrira sur une performance originale d'Elizabeth Logue et comprendra également la première de THE CHAIR, un court métrage documentaire retraçant une initiative menée par des jeunes, soutenue par les membres de Transition écologique La Pêche – Coalition pour un Green New Deal, qui consiste à installer un siège permanent pour les enfants dans la salle du conseil municipal, afin de garantir que leur voix soit représentée dans les prises de décision civiques.

ANACHNID :
Anachnid est une musicienne et auteure-compositrice multidisciplinaire oji-cri, basée à Montréal, au Québec, connue pour ses mélanges d’électro-pop, d’indie, de trap, de soul, de hip-hop et de sons expérimentaux. Son premier album, Dreamweaver (2020), a été présélectionné pour le Prix Polaris de la musique, et elle a remporté le Prix Félix 2021 de l’artiste autochtone de l’année ainsi que le Prix SOCAN 2019 de l’auteur-compositeur autochtone de l’année.

NATHALIE COUTOU
Nathalie Coutou est née dans une ferme abritant un chenil de plus de 800 chiens de traîneau, dans la province de Québec. Enfant, elle a eu toute latitude pour laisser libre cours à son imagination et a été inspirée par le talent artistique de son père franco-européen, ainsi que par la joie de vivre inébranlable de sa mère et ses origines mi’kmaq. La peinture et le dessin sont rapidement devenus son moyen d’expression.

Diplômée en arts graphiques et parallèlement à sa carrière d’entrepreneure, Nathalie s’est impliquée dans de nombreux projets. Pendant huit ans, au cœur de son village, elle a organisé le « Wakefield Harvest Festival », un événement rassemblant des milliers de personnes pour célébrer la récolte dans un esprit de gratitude. En 2018, elle a lancé COUTOU COLLECTION, qui présente ses œuvres sur des vêtements d’art fabriqués au Canada.

JEAN GRAND-MAÎTRE
Jean Grand-Maître, C.M., est un chorégraphe et directeur artistique canadien de renom, originaire de la région de l’Outaouais. Il a suivi une formation en danse moderne et classique à Toronto et à Montréal et a créé plus de 100 ballets pour de grandes compagnies du monde entier. De 2002 à 2022, il a occupé le poste de directeur artistique de l’Alberta Ballet, élargissant son répertoire et sa renommée internationale, et a été nommé membre de l’Ordre du Canada pour sa contribution à la danse.

NADIA ROSS
Nadia Ross est la fondatrice (1992) et la directrice artistique de STO Union (stounion.com), une compagnie dédiée à la création d’œuvres multidisciplinaires inspirées par la performance, l’art en direct et le théâtre.

Les projets de Nadia Ross remettent constamment en question la notion même de scène et s’interrogent sur qui ou quoi peut y figurer. Elle a reçu de nombreux prix et distinctions, notamment le plus grand prix de théâtre au Canada, le Siminovitch, qui a salué sa résilience et sa pratique visionnaire.

STO Union’s “NEW LIGHT/NOUVELLE LUMIÈRE” festivities continue with “𝑺𝑯𝑶𝑪𝑲𝑨𝑫𝑬𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑰𝑨” featuring Claire Bestland and Sheena Turcotte! 8pm/20h at Kaffé 1870!

A shocking and delicate anthology of female songwriters who embodied discontent, subversive feminine agency and a creative sexual morality, seeking to restore them to their rightful position as models to all women.

Created by Claire Bestland in collaboration with theatre artist Sheena Turcotte, 𝑺𝑯𝑶𝑪𝑲𝑨𝑫𝑬𝑳𝑰𝑪𝑰𝑨 is a new work tracing the lineage of women songwriters who defied genre, expectation, and convention. Blending original songs, reinterpretations, and storytelling, the project moves fluidly between past and present—honouring artists who baffled, inspired, and sometimes frightened audiences by refusing to stay in their lane.

Following a sold-out Phase 1 presentation in 2025, this new iteration expands again with new material, deeper collaboration, and an increased level of production.

𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃: Claire has performed at venues including The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and The Civic Theatre in New Orleans, The Black Sheep Inn, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. She has studied with musicians such as Roy Future Man Wooten and most recently undertook a period of study with Rory Block in the United States.

A highly diverse musician, Bestland’s roots and passion lie with the guitar, which she approaches as both a melodic and percussive instrument. Her studies and professional practice contribute to the development and growth of the music and forms she has inherited. Influenced by artists such as Rory Block, she is committed to reviving and reinterpreting disappearing historical guitar traditions through her work as a composer for video and theatre and as a contemporary musician performing solo and in groups.

𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐍𝐀 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐂𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐄: Sheena has been performing for close to 30 years, starting on local event stages, then training in theatre in Montreal and Toronto, followed by years of working in theatres, for production companies and with musical artists nationally and internationally. Her creative passion is for building community through the arts and reviving timeless repertoire for modern audiences.

David Perrett is a Luskville-based sculptor whose work masterfully bridges classical and contemporary processes. With a deep passion for tactile material exploration, he integrates stone, metal, wood, and electronics into elegant, polished objects that probe themes of materiality, perception, and wonder.

Raised in Winnipeg, David experienced the sharp contrast of harsh urban winters and immersive summers canoeing the Canadian Shield. This duality continues to shape his practice—bringing disparate material worlds together through sculpture and seeking out the “arresting moments” hidden in everyday objects and raw matter.

He holds a BFA from the University of Manitoba and an MFA from York University, and his work has been featured in regional exhibitions and documentaries.

“The world is full of curiosities that I find by searching out arresting moments in the materials and objects that I come across… Sculpture provides me the framework to find wonder in the tangible elements of the world, to touch and manipulate the stuff of the universe, and to share my wonder with a broader public.” — David Perrett

Sculpteur basé à Luskville, David Perrett concilie avec brio, dans son œuvre, les techniques classiques et contemporaines. Animé par une profonde passion pour l’exploration tactile des matériaux, il intègre la pierre, le métal, le bois et l’électronique dans des objets élégants et raffinés qui explorent les thèmes de la matérialité, de la perception et de l’émerveillement.

Ayant grandi à Winnipeg, David a connu le contraste saisissant entre les hivers urbains rigoureux et les étés immersifs passés à faire du canoë sur le Bouclier canadien. Cette dualité continue de façonner sa pratique : il réunit des univers matériels disparates à travers la sculpture et part à la recherche des « moments saisissants » cachés dans les objets du quotidien et la matière brute.

Titulaire d’une licence en beaux-arts de l’Université du Manitoba et d’un master en beaux-arts de l’Université York, son travail a été présenté dans des expositions régionales et des documentaires.

Chris MacLean is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and beloved community choir leader who has been performing contemporary folk, world, and roots music for over 30 years. She has toured internationally and built a vibrant career rooted in both artistry and connection.

A passionate facilitator, Chris founded and leads the non-auditioned Song Kitchen Community Choir in Wakefield and Ottawa. She also creates welcoming spaces through her annual VoiceDance retreats and circle singing workshops, where singers and non-singers alike come together to improvise, harmonize, move, and build community. Her work is deeply influenced by mentors like Rhiannon and Bobby McFerrin. In 2015 she graduated from the Community Choir Leadership Training in Victoria, BC, and in 2018 completed Rhiannon’s master-class “All the Way In.” She facilitates at prestigious venues including the Omega Institute in New York and is part of the Ubuntu Choirs Network.

Chris brings warmth, wisdom, and real-world experience to the conversation about what it truly takes to sustain a creative life in the Outaouais — from professional pathways and visibility to the cultural and linguistic realities we navigate as artists here.

Coup de projecteur sur l’artiste : Chris MacLean 🎙️✨

Chris MacLean est une auteure-compositrice-interprète, multi-instrumentiste et cheffe de chœur communautaire très appréciée, qui se produit depuis plus de 30 ans dans les registres de la musique folk contemporaine, de la musique du monde et de la musique roots. Elle a effectué des tournées internationales et s’est forgé une carrière dynamique, ancrée à la fois dans l’art et dans le lien social.

Animatrice passionnée, Chris a fondé et dirige la chorale communautaire Song Kitchen, ouverte à tous sans audition, à Wakefield et à Ottawa. Elle crée également des espaces accueillants à travers ses retraites annuelles VoiceDance et ses ateliers de chant en cercle, où chanteurs et non-chanteurs se réunissent pour improviser, harmoniser, bouger et tisser des liens communautaires. Son travail est profondément influencé par des mentors tels que Rhiannon et Bobby McFerrin. Randy Kelly is an award-winning director, editor, and cinematographer based in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. With over 30 years of experience, he has crafted a rich body of work spanning dramatic and lifestyle television series, documentaries, short and feature-length films, cinepoems, and music videos (in both English and French). His projects have aired on more than 15 television networks across Canada and internationally!

Known for his sensitivity, humanity, and immersive documentary style, Randy creates space for authentic emotions to emerge. His film “Le temps qu’il me reste” is a powerful example of a piece of work filled with respect and kindness where the camera steps back to let truth and feeling take center stage.
Since 2014, he has also shared his passion through cinepoetry and spoken-word workshops at international schools around the world. Randy is drawn to diverse subjects, - anything from history and politics to arts and science - and thrives on travel and artistic collaboration.

Randy Kelly est un réalisateur, monteur et directeur de la photographie primé, basé dans la région d’Ottawa/Gatineau. Fort de plus de 30 ans d’expérience, il a bâti une œuvre riche et variée, allant des séries télévisées dramatiques et lifestyle aux documentaires, en passant par les courts et longs métrages, les cinépoèmes et les clips musicaux (en anglais et en français). Ses projets ont été diffusés sur plus de 15 chaînes de télévision à travers le Canada et à l’international !

Réputé pour sa sensibilité, son humanité et son style documentaire immersif, Randy crée un espace propice à l’expression d’émotions authentiques. Son film « Le temps qu’il me reste » est un exemple saisissant d’œuvre empreinte de respect et de bienveillance, où la caméra s’efface pour laisser la vérité et les sentiments occuper le devant de la scène.

Canadian pianist and musicologist Carson Becke holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford. He has performed widely across Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean as a soloist, chamber musician, and vocal collaborator.

Carson is co-director of Pontiac Enchanté, a concert series in Luskville, Quebec, known for innovative programming and strong environmental sustainability. He is also an active composer, arranger, and champion of lesser-known late-Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire. His two albums of Richard Strauss’s piano music and lieder (with Wallis Giunta) are available on streaming platforms. He performs regularly with Duo Octavian (two pianos) and has collaborated with many leading artists including Jack Liebeck, the Ironwood Quartet, and others. https://www.carsonbecke.com/
