The Vermilion Gun Club is pleased to present the club's annual
"Military Service Rifle Match".

The match will be held at the Vermilion Gun Club's gun range on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Registrations are now open. Reserve a spot now as the match is limited to a maximum of 18 participants. For Registration info and match details refer to the attached match poster.

This match is a friendly competition where participants use only
"as-issued" vintage bolt-action military service rifles. Only rifles with open "battle-sights" or aperture target sights are permitted. No scoped rifles nor any semi-auto action rifles are allowed.

The Vermilion Gun Club held a successful Cowboy Action Match this past weekend. Themed as a Tribute to the movie “True Grit” the Shootout in Grizzly Bear Coulee was a great way to recognize and celebrate National Range Day.

Enjoy reliving the action and events of three days of cowboy action shooting by scrolling through the attached photo dump. As you can see it was an action packed weekend enjoyed by all the participants and visitors.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their outstanding work and time spent on getting the range ready, setting up props and facades, preparing snacks and food for the banquet, and everything else that goes with putting on a three day shooting event. A very special mention to Blaine and Vaughn for their leadership and dedication toward the cowboy action shooting discipline. Job well done on all accounts.

VGC “Shooting Clinic: Intro to ORPS Shooting”, Sunday, May 31, 2026

When the event planners decided to go ahead with the shooting clinic as a “Rain or Shine Event” we had no idea it would be under near “monsoon conditions”. On Sunday despite a torrential down-pore seven intrepid shooters met at the VGC range to learn about Outlaw Rimfire Precision Shooting and to experience shooting off a variety of props using standard shooting positions. Some of the props that we got to shoot off included: a step ladder, a 55 gallon drum, a set of piled tires, a tank trap barricade, a prs practice barricade and a pyramid. Each required positional changes during the course of fire which in itself proved challenging. The targets down range at 50,75 and 100 yards were steel reactive targets which thankfully were not affected by the rain.

Thankfully, the covered and screened shooting shelter kept us dry for the day and despite the lousy wet conditions everyone who came out learnt about ORPS shooting and got to try a new Rimfire shooting discipline. Everyone went home damp but happy that they got to spend a day shooting with some new found friends.

A big thank you to Keith and Warren for setting this up and bringing the steel reactive targets to shoot at. Thank you as well for the donation to the VGC of the tank trap, practice barricade and the pyramid. The club will make use of these in future matches.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: 'Shootout in Grizzly Bear Coulee"

Attached find the official schedule of events for the Vermilion Gun Club's annual Cowboy Action Match "Shootout in Grizzly Bear Coulee starting on Thursday, June 4 and ending on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Just a reminder to those not participating in this event that the VGC gun range is closed to all other shooting activities on the time and dates noted below.

Range Closed: - Thursday, June 4 from noon to dusk.
- Friday, June 5 from 8:00 AM to dusk.
- Saturday, June 6 from 8:00 AM to dusk.
- Sunday, June 7 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

There will be club members working on the range over the next couple of days to get ready for this event. Please make allowances to your planned shooting activities to allow for people working on the range at various times.

Good morning to everyone who is signed up to attend the VGC “Shooting Clinic-Intro to ORPS shooting” at the Vermilion Gun Club range tomorrow Sunday, May 31. We are going ahead with the clinic despite the lousy weather forecast. We will set up our props/barricades under the shooting shelter and we will be shooting at steel targets down range. Bring rain gear and layer up to stay warm. Don’t forget to bring a snack and a thermos of a hot beverage as there won’t be any lunch provided. See you down at the range and don’t forget to bring your favourite .22 rifle and ammo.

VERMILION GUN CLUB "GUN RANGE CLOSURE NOTICE"

Please be advised that the Vermilion Gun Club gun range will be closed for regular member shooting activities for the following VGC hosted events on the days noted.

Event: "Shooting Clinic: Intro to Outlaw Rimfire Precision Shooting" Date: Sunday, May 31, 2026. Gun range closed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Event: "Shootout in Grizzly Bear Coulee", the VGC's annual Cowboy Action Match.
Date: Thursday, June 4, 2026, range closed from 12:00 noon to Dusk to allow for the set-up of the various stages and old time facades. Range is closed Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 8:00 AM to Dusk. On Sunday, June 7 the range is closed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and will re-open for regular shooting activities after 5:00 PM.

Please note that participation in both of these hosted events is by "pre-registration only".

"Life is better when you're at the range!"

There is nothing quite like the sound of a full firing line: targets set, rifles made ready, scopes dialed in, friendly conversation between the shooters and that quiet focus before the line goes hot.

Doesn't matter if you're trying to better your shot grouping, trying to shoot a personal best, swapping stories with the guy next to you or just enjoying a good day at the gun range with fellow shooting enthusiasts, being at the Vermilion Gun Club range is where shooters can do what they love to do.

Don't miss out on being part of a shooting relay at one of the upcoming rimfire matches. There are still a few spots open for additional shooters at the each of the following events at the Vermilion Gun Club gun range. Don't wait till the last minute to pre-register, act now as both events have limited entry.

>.22 LR Rimfire League Night Cancelled for tonight!

Due to the pending and on-going rain showers and already sloppy road conditions the .22 LR rimfire league shoot scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, May 20 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled to run next Wednesday, May 27, 2026 starting at 7:00 PM. No point in messing up the road to the range anymore than we need to considering there are still soft spots from the last rain/snow storms. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
