Good morning to everyone who is signed up to attend the VGC “Shooting Clinic-Intro to ORPS shooting” at the Vermilion Gun Club range tomorrow Sunday, May 31. We are going ahead with the clinic despite the lousy weather forecast. We will set up our props/barricades under the shooting shelter and we will be shooting at steel targets down range. Bring rain gear and layer up to stay warm. Don’t forget to bring a snack and a thermos of a hot beverage as there won’t be any lunch provided. See you down at the range and don’t forget to bring your favourite .22 rifle and ammo.

"Life is better when you're at the range!"

There is nothing quite like the sound of a full firing line: targets set, rifles made ready, scopes dialed in, friendly conversation between the shooters and that quiet focus before the line goes hot.

Doesn't matter if you're trying to better your shot grouping, trying to shoot a personal best, swapping stories with the guy next to you or just enjoying a good day at the gun range with fellow shooting enthusiasts, being at the Vermilion Gun Club range is where shooters can do what they love to do.

Don't miss out on being part of a shooting relay at one of the upcoming rimfire matches. There are still a few spots open for additional shooters at the each of the following events at the Vermilion Gun Club gun range. Don't wait till the last minute to pre-register, act now as both events have limited entry.

Sunday, May 31, 2026: "Shooting Clinic: Intro to Outlaw Precision
Rimfire Shooting"

Saturday, June 27, 2026: ".22LR. Rimfire Challenge Match"

Benches are waiting, Targets will be set and ready. The only thing missing is you!

Send us a note by email at [email protected] or by Text at 780-581-5030 to register for either or both events.

>.22 LR Rimfire League Night Cancelled for tonight!

Due to the pending and on-going rain showers and already sloppy road conditions the .22 LR rimfire league shoot scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, May 20 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled to run next Wednesday, May 27, 2026 starting at 7:00 PM. No point in messing up the road to the range anymore than we need to considering there are still soft spots from the last rain/snow storms. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

A reshare explaining the VGC policies on law enforcement use of our gun range.

A reshare explaining the VGC policies on law enforcement use of our gun range.

VGC gun range Civilian Use Only during public hours effective June 3, 2020

Due to the implementation of the new fi****ms ban and prohibitions announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on May 1, 2020 the Vermilion Gun Club Executive notified all members of the local Law Enforcement community that the VGC gun range is now a Civilian Use Only range during regular civilian use hours. Civilian prohibited fi****ms, extended magazines and other prohibited devices that are now prohibited by the federal government are not permitted on the VGC range and property during civilian hours.

To clarify, any member of a law enforcement agency who currently holds a Vermilion Gun Club membership is prohibited from using any firearm and/or device at the VGC range that are now classified as Civilian Prohibited by the O.I.C. Of May1, 2020. This restriction on L.E. Members is in force when they are not participating in a pre-approved/pre-arranged range rental training agreement.

In addition, the VGC now requires that all law enforcement members holding a VGC membership use the gun range as “private citizens” and attend the range in civilian attire. Uniforms are not to be worn when law enforcement members access the range for personal use outside of a pre-arranged training range rental agreement. All posted “civilian range rules” apply when a law enforcement member uses the range as a private citizen.

The only exception to the above noted restrictions for law enforcement training purposes using “civilian prohibited fi****ms and extended magazines” will be through pre-approved/pre-arranged rental booking of the gun range for sole use of the range for the day by the renting agency.

The procedure to request a rental booking for training purposes is described in full on the club website at vermiliongunclub.ca. Any request for a range rental training agreement must be done by e-mail to the Vermilion Gun Club and must be done well in advance of the requested rental date. All requests are reviewed by the VGC executive before being approved. The current rental rate is $500 per day which is is reasonable campared to what other gun clubs charge. The rental window is Monday to Friday only, and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Range rentals for law enforcement agencies is also limited to the months of May, June, July and August. Proof of insurance must be provided as well.

This new policy on the use of the Vermilion Gun Club gun range by the law enforcement community comes into effect immediately.

Respectivefully, the Vermilion Gun Club Executive

The Vermilion Gun Club was pleased to host the Light Rifle and Trap shooting events that were part of the events of the Division 2 Alberta Junior and Senior High School rodeo held at Lakeland College this past weekend.

Twenty five Junior and Senior High School students particapted in the Light Rifle shooting event using .22 LR Rimfire rifles. The course of fire included shooting 12 shots at paper targets at 50 yards in each of the three shooting positions: prone, standing and kneeling. Eight shooters also participated in the Trap shooting event using 12 gauge shotguns. Each shooter completed 2 full rounds of trap trying to hit a total of 50 clay targets.

A big thank you to VGC volunteers who gave up part of their Saturday to help out at this event.

The Vermilion Gun Club continues to support these shooting events associated with the Alberta High School rodeo Association. Good luck to all the contestants at the upcoming “Canadian High School Rodeo Nationals” being held in Vermilion this coming August.
