The North Shore LIP aims to enhance collaboration, coordination and strategic planning at the community level to foster more welcoming and inclusive communities that improve settlement and integration outcomes for newcomers. This regional partnership of diverse stakeholders, including multi-levels of government, community agencies, health & education services, and employers among others will encou

rage communities to better understand and consider newcomersโ€™ assets and needs in terms of access, coordination, and programming. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the North Shore Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) was launched in 2021 with the catchment area of Colchester, Pictou and Antigonish Counties.

Many employers in Canada, require WHMIS & OH&S training.

WHMIS stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It is a set of rules used across Canada to keep workers safe when using, handling, or storing hazardous products at work.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is about keeping people safe, healthy, and well while they are at work. It includes rules, training, and practices to find and prevent dangers on the job, like accidents, injuries, or illnesses.

Join us at the Pathways to Possibility: Unveiling Newcomer Journeys event on September 18th at the Museum of Industry. We are excited to have Umoja starting us off at 12:55pm in the courtyard.

Umoja African Drummers is a family-based group from Nova Scotia made up of siblings Muriko, Murtriko, and Muresia Izzard.

"Umoja" means unity in Swahili, and the group is known for its energetic, interactive performances that bring African drumming and culture to local stages and community events. Together, they aim to share rhythm, connection, and unity through their music.

The LIP is excited to have Terrence Taylor, the founder of TALKS TOO MUCH, facilitating the Ethical Storytelling Workshop at the Pathways to Possibility: Unveiling Newcomer Journeys event on September 18th at the Museum of Industry.

He helps people and organizations turn real-life experiences into tools for growth, leadership, and impact. With a background in film, mental health, and youth work, Terrence brings over 15 years of experience using stories to bridge gaps across cultures, generations, and workplaces.

His work focuses on three powerful pillars: Storytelling, Failure, and Psychological Safetyโ€”delivered through keynotes, workshops, and long-term training programs. From speaking in boardrooms to working with high school students, Terrence is known for making people feel seen, heard, and challenged to grow.
Born in Las Vegas, raised in Nova Scotia, and rooted in Black community, Terrenceโ€™s approach blends creativity, honesty, and a deep belief in the power of storytelling to build stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

Join us at the Museum of Industry for the North Shore LIPโ€™s annual event, โ€œPathways to Possibility: Unveiling Newcomer Journeys,โ€ on September 18th from 1-4pm. This yearโ€™s gathering celebrates the inspiring and diverse stories of newcomers.

Be among the first to experience the LIP's new video series, a project funded by Labour, Skills, and Immigration (LSI), which highlights the inspiring journeys of newcomers as they build their careers and futures in our community. Participate in a practical mini-workshop on ethical storytelling and discover how authentic, respectful narratives can help build understanding and connection.
