Through the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program, those who have been affected by criminal harms (individuals and community) have the opportunity to work with those r

esponsible or who contributed to what happened together with others who can offer support to consider the contexts, causes, circumstances, and impacts of an incident. The Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program supports processes that aim to address the issues, harms and needs of those involved and to develop plans for the future. The John Howard Society Central Regional Office is one of eight agencies across the province that administer the Restorative Justice Program in Nova Scotia for both youth and adults. Restorative justice (RJ) is a philosophy that views crime and conflict principally as harm is done to people and relationships. Indigenous referrals are administered by MLSN - Customary Law Program. Today on the National Day of Mourning we remember workers who have died, were injured, or became ill from their job. We commit to protecting workers and preventing further workplace tragedies.

In 2023 alone, there were 1,057 workplace fatalities recorded in Canada. On top of that there were 274,022 accepted claims for lost time due to a work-related injury or disease. These statistics only include what is reported and accepted by the compensation boards, there is no doubt the total number of workers impacted is even greater.

Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility! Today is a crucial reminder that visibility saves lives. It fosters understanding, challenges prejudice, and creates space for acceptance. To our allies: thank you for your ongoing support. Continue to listen, learn, and advocate for transgender rights. To our trans siblings: you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone. โค๏ธ

This month, weโ€™re celebrating the milestones weโ€™ve achieved in honoring the incredible contributions of African Nova Scotians. Last week, we highlighted the first recognition of African Heritage Month. This week, weโ€™re shining a light on the moment it was rightfully nationalized. In 1995, the House of Commons officially declared February as Black History Month, and in 2008, the Senate made it a permanent recognition. Today, it continues to be a time of celebration and reflection under a new name. ๐Ÿ–คโœจ

As we celebrate African Heritage Month, we honor the milestones that have shaped our journey and reflect on the legacy of those who paved the way. In 1985, the North Branch Library became a beacon of progress by hosting the first Black History Month in our community. Letโ€™s carry this legacy forward as we celebrate our rich heritage, embrace our present, and build a brighter future together. ๐ŸŒโœจ
