For over 30 years, The Stop Community Food Centre has been at the forefront of dignified, innovative programs that provi

de access to healthy food; build skills, health, hope, and community; and confront the underlying issues that lead to poverty and hunger. Our wide range of programs include drop-in meals, a food bank, community kitchens and gardens, perinatal and family support, civic engagement, and children and youth engagement. We also run the popular Farmers' Market at Wychwood Barns every Saturday morning from 8AM to 1PM. The Stop is an Imagine Canada accredited charity.

āœØ Our Healthy Beginnings program participants enjoyed a very special morning outing at WeeFestival Toronto last month, where they experienced the performance "Cooo"ā€”a magical blend of sound, light, and movement created especially for young audiences.

It was a joy to watch the children so fully engaged; curious, still, and completely absorbed in the performance.

As one participant shared: ā€œCaptivating sounds, soft lighting, and inspiring voices came together to create a true work of art for our little spectatorsā€¦ Watching their sweet faces light up with wonder was pure joy.ā€

A heartfelt thank you to artists Xin Wang and Michael Murphy, Artistic Director Lynda Hill, and the Wee Festival team for making this experience possible. šŸ’š

šŸŖ“This season is bursting with growth: more seedlings, expanding growing spaces, new beds being built with volunteer support, and even bigger harvest goals ahead.

Last year, we grew over 500 kilos of foodā€”and this year, weā€™re aiming to double it.

But itā€™s not just about numbers. Itā€™s about people.

The gardens we steward at The Stop are places where community members can access fresh, culturally meaningful foods, learn food-growing skills, and bring home produce grown right here in the city.

Big news from The Stopā€™s Advocacy Office: weā€™ve launched a Tenantsā€™ Rights Legal Advice Clinic in partnership with West Toronto Community Legal Services.

The clinic, which launched on April 17 and runs until June 19, offers free one-on-one support with a housing lawyer, helping community members navigate issues such as rent increases, lease concerns, maintenance repairs, privacy rights, and eviction prevention.

At a time when legal clinics are stretched beyond capacity, many people are left without support until a crisis hits. This clinic helps create a rare ā€œthird spaceā€ of support, offering more accessible legal guidance earlier and helping prevent issues from escalating.
