Lay-Up

We exist to harness the power of the sport and culture of basketball to develop the skills and confidence kids need on and off the court.

Lay-Up is a charitable organization (BN:77709 6124 RR0001).

Summer 2026 was… so many things.

It was hundreds of small moments that add up to something bigger: youth and coaches across the city playing, learning, and growing — together.

None of it happens without our community of partners, staff, and families. Thank you for showing up all summer long.

Every Kid Needs a Team.

The best way to close out a summer across the city? Bring everyone together.

Through basketball, competitions, games and activities, one thing rang strongest: community.

That’s exactly what Play Days are all about. Bringing young people and coaches from across the city together to play, connect and celebrate!

Thank you Tangerine for the support in making this summer’s Play Days possible.

Part II

Last week, our Lay-Up community gathered to witness something special — our Executive Director Micaella Riche ( Micaella Pascale )took the floor to present the game ball, recognizing Lay-Up as the Toronto Tempo’s ( Toronto Tempo ) WNBA ( WNBA ) Commissioner’s Cup Charity Beneficiary.

From the announcement of Canada’s first WNBA franchise in 2024, to the first home game tipping off on Canadian soil in 2025 — we’ve had a front row seat to something bigger than basketball.

60+ youth, coaches, supporters, and community members. One unforgettable evening. Captured the way special moments deserve to be.

Lay-Up’s 2026 Coaches of the Year, in partnership with the Toronto Tempo.

We recognize the importance of redefining success in coaching. It’s about celebrating young leaders who go beyond developing basketball skills.

This award celebrates coaches who pour into youth by centering belonging, celebrating different contributions, and challenging every young person in ways that meet them where they’re at to build confidence.

Hassan and Andrea embody what this looks like in action. Their leadership, care, and commitment are creating positive sport experiences for thousands of kids across the city.

Special thanks to and the for helping us celebrate the coaches shaping the next generation of hoopers and leaders.

By 2030, Lay-Up needs to prepare 3,500 young people in Toronto to survive real-world problems. We’ve partnered with Visions of Science to get them there.

Part Two: House League Live on Air

Youth will step into the role of sports media engineers and storytellers, using their earlier work - comprised of team brand identity, player stats, and profiles - to create a polished broadcast segment previewing their own upcoming 3-on-3 matchup.

Visit to see in-depth recaps of each workshop.
