Power Youth by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery

Power Youth by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery Power Youth is an outreach initiative by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery serving priority youth ages 12-17

The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery's Power Youth outreach program connects local contemporary artists-in-residence with youth in priority neighbourhoods providing youth with new tools for self-expression and the opportunity to gain skills in creativity, communication and collaboration. By connecting artists with diverse youth in meaningful engagement, we strive to enrich the lives of our com

munity members and extend cultural understanding beyond the gallery walls. The program aims to help youth gain a better understanding of contemporary art practice and awareness of cultural resources, while giving them an opportunity to discuss issues impacting their lives. Power Youth provides free contemporary art programming for youth who attend the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weston-Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights, The Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club in Regent Park and Toronto Public Library's Sanderson Branch Youth Hub. We offer youth in these communities a safe, fun and engaging program that is an extension of the Gallery's mandate to engage diverse audiences with contemporary art. Over the course of continued programming, Power Youth participants visit The Power Plant for guided tours with gallery educators, create their own works of art inspired by contemporary discourse and exhibit their finished productions.
