Ve’ahavta is a Jewish Social Services Agency that empowers people of all faiths living in poverty to discover their strengths, realize their potential, and lead lives of independence and purpose. Ve’ahavta (Hebrew for “and you shall love”) is committed to engaging community members in a meaningful and hands-on way to support our collective mission of tikun olam (repairing the world). On World Homeless Day, we recognize that far too many people in Toronto continue to face the daily realities of homelessness.

Over the past year, Ve'ahavta's Mobile Jewish Response to Homelessness (MJRH) outreach vans have delivered more than 43,000 hot meals and connected people to support through 1,217 referrals to next-step services.

These numbers reflect more than services provided. They represent consistent, compassionate support and the beginning of meaningful pathways out of poverty and homelessness.

Three years ago today, Israel and Jewish communities around the world suffered a day of profound loss.

We remember the people who were murdered, those taken hostage, and the families whose lives were changed forever. May their memory be a blessing.

We stand with Israel and with our Jewish community. We stand against antisemitism, terror and hate in every form, against our people and against all people.

As Jews, we know what it is to grieve, rebuild, and rise again. We will not be defined by what was done to us. Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we keep building a world where every life is cherished.

For five years, we walked with Coldest Night of the Year. This December, we’re stepping out with something that’s fully ours: Light the Way, a community walk for people overcoming poverty.
Poverty isn’t solved from the outside in. It’s solved when people are given the support they need to rekindle their belief in themselves, and the tools to discover their way forward.
That belief is what powers our outreach van and pre-employment programs, every single day of the year.
We’re aiming for 140 walkers, 25 teams, and $75,000. Whether you register, form a team, or simply give, you’re part of how we get there.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the strength and resilience of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
Truth and Reconciliation is not a single day. It is an ongoing commitment to learning, listening, and taking meaningful action toward a just and equitable society.

Geddy chose to celebrate his special day with an ECHOage Birthdays party and raised donations for Ve'ahavta in lieu of wrapped gifts, because he wanted to "help people who don’t have homes or stuff they need."

Yom Kippur gives us the opportunity to take stock and resolve to create change in our lives.

As we reflect on the year behind us and consider the year ahead, may we approach one another with compassion, guided by the belief that every person has the capacity to overcome hardship and lead a thriving, fulfilling life.
