We are LiftED (previously The Leacock Foundation, established in 1992), a charity whose vision is a world where all children and youth have an opportunity to reach for their full potential. Our mission is to confront inequity by empowering children and youth to develop the critical and creative thinking skills to be confident leaders now and in the future.

After starting the morning with a warm breakfast, our SMLC students at Jane and Driftwood dove into Inspiring Future Engineers with Young Engineers.

With deep focus, teamwork, and plenty of excitement, they built, experimented, problem-solved, and proudly brought their ideas to life. You could see their confidence growing with every creation.

Mornings like these are a powerful reminder that when students are nourished, supported, and given hands-on opportunities to explore, their potential expands in incredible ways.

Thank you to the East York-Scarborough Reading Association for inviting LiftED Literacy and Leadership to the Reading for the Love of It Conference and for selecting us as one of two charities for this year’s silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction will help ensure more children have access to free literacy and leadership programming where confidence and skills grow together. 📚

We left energized by conversations about play as a pathway to emotional health and attachment, and the reminder that play is the means, not the goal. We were equally inspired by sessions on emerging writers that emphasized consistent, low stakes writing opportunities and strengthening reader self perceptions to build confident, motivated learners. ✏️✨

Become a LiftED Committee Member & Make an Impact✨

LiftED Literacy and Leadership is looking for passionate volunteers to join our Communications Committee and Fund Development Committee.

Communications Committee 🗣️
Support storytelling, marketing, and messaging that strengthens our case for support and helps our work reach the right audiences.

Fund Development Committee 🎗️
Help shape fundraising strategies, strengthen donor relationships, and support the financial sustainability of programs serving children and youth in underserved Toronto communities.

Commitment: ⌛️
4–5 virtual meetings per year (45–60 minutes) plus light outreach as needed.

This is a meaningful way to use your skills for impact and support equitable education outcomes.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Board Member! We’re thrilled to welcome Tamika Mitchell, Partner at MNP, and grateful for her leadership, passion, and commitment to literacy and community impact as she joins LiftED.

“I’m excited, and honoured, to be a part of the Board. LiftED does so much to positively impact the lives of children and families in some of the most deserving communities in the GTA. Literacy is the key to a bright future; and it’s wonderful to see the youth registered for LiftED’s programming deepening their skills in critical thinking, learning more about their world and how they can change it for the better. My hope is that I will be able to add my efforts in enlarging the programs and garnering support for this great organization.”
