State Street helps institutional investors navigate complex financial markets and create better outcomes for the people and organizations they serve. We’re grateful to see that same spirit of partnership and impact reflected in the way that State Street and its employees are giving back to Fife House and the community—helping create better outcomes for people and families living with HIV/AIDS, and the community and city at large. Today, on National Day Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the Indigenous children taken from their families and communities and the thousands who never came home. The residential school system began in the 1830s and continued for more than 150 years, with the last federally run residential school closing in 1996. Its devastating legacy continues to affect Survivors, their families and communities across generations.

Indigenous Peoples continue to experience disproportionate impacts of HIV, poverty, and profound inequities in access to safe, stable housing—inequities shaped by the ongoing effects of colonialism, racism and systemic barriers. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, particularly items 18 to 24, speaks about Indigenous health, including the need to close gaps in health outcomes, and ensure culturally appropriate care. Canada's current HIV/STBBI framework explicitly connects reconciliation with addressing structural inequities and social determinants of health among First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, including poverty and housing.

For Fife House, we recognize Truth and Reconciliation must be inseparable from our work, and our responsibility to advance health, dignity and housing for Indigenous people living with HIV/AIDS - so as to build a more equitable future. Today, we reflect on that responsibility.

And we honour Survivors and the children who never returned home, and reaffirm our commitment to learning, accountability and action—not just today, but throughout the year. May remembrance move us toward reconciliation, and reconciliation toward meaningful change. 🧡 Every Child Matters🧡

Leadership that keeps us moving forward.❤️🏠 Fife House is delighted to announce that Andrew Perez has been re-elected as President of our Board of Directors.

Since taking on the role in March 2025, Andrew has brought thoughtful leadership, compassion and a strong commitment to our mission of supporting people and families living with HIV/AIDS through housing, community and care.

We’re also excited to celebrate Andrew as he begins a new chapter as Executive Director of Egale Canada. His deep experience in public policy, strategic communications, and 2SLGBTQI+ advocacy continues to bring valuable perspective to Fife House and the community we serve.

🍲🥗 Food nourishes more than the body—it also supports health, dignity and community. This past year, Fife House served 28,260+ warm, nutritious meals and distributed 26,800+ pounds of food to our residents, helping reduce hunger and food insecurity. This would not be possible without the generosity of our donors, supporters, funders and community partners. ❤️

It goes without saying that access to nutritious food is important for everyone. For people living with HIV/AIDS, this is even more so as research evidence indicate that adequate nutrition is critical for effectiveness of antiretroviral treatments and food insecurity has been linked to higher mortality rates among people living with HIV/AIDS—unfortunately, many of whom are more likely to experience low income and food insecurity.

A key can open the door to an entirely new chapter.🗝️After experiencing homelessness from the age of 16 and surviving human trafficking, CM entered Fife House’s Transitional Housing Program. With the support she received, she was able to move into her very first apartment—and hold the keys to a home of her own.

“Having stable housing has given me the foundation to move forward in ways I never imagined possible. Since finding that stability, I have maintained my recovery, focused on my education, and worked toward building a meaningful future."🏠🌈

CM's story is a powerful reminder of what safe, stable housing—and the right supports—can make possible. Fife House was able to be there for CM and others because of the generosity and backing of a community that believes everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
