Launch of NLFC's Impact Dashboard 🎉

🌊 What if Snook’s Arm just needed a co-op?

In Below, the hit TV series filmed in Newfoundland and Labrador, the community faces a big question: should they stay or go?

Fogo Island faced that question, too. Instead of resettling, residents stayed, came together, and built a co-operative that helped create the vibrant community we know today.

🌟Co-op Week Recap 🌟

With Co-op Week ending this past Saturday, we wanted to take a moment and recap the successes of last week! Today is International Credit Union Day, and the latest figures from the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) give a useful picture of the scale and direction of the movement.

At the end of 2025, around 61,838 credit unions and financial cooperatives across 93 countries served nearly 420 million members and managed US$3.98 trillion in assets.

The report also points to some of the issues shaping what comes next: regulation, digital competition, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and governance. It also includes new data on leadership, with women holding around 28% of board seats across the sample reviewed.

In a new Co-op News piece, WOCCU President and CEO Paul Treinen reflects on trust, purposeful innovation, governance, member engagement and the continued importance of the cooperative model.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys keeping things running smoothly, building relationships, and contributing to a stronger co-operative movement across Newfoundland & Labrador.

In this role, you’ll help keep our day-to-day operations on track while supporting our diverse network of co-operatives and credit unions. From bookkeeping and office administration to member engagement, communications, and event coordination, your work will help strengthen the organizations that make our communities better.

We’re looking for someone with strong administrative and bookkeeping skills, excellent attention to detail, and a collaborative, member-focused approach. Experience in a not-for-profit or membership-based organization is an asset!

Our Managing Director, Dave Walsh was in Ottawa recently, taking part in the Canada Co-o I Coop Canada Parliamentary Breakfast, which included the launch of Canada Co-op's Power the Economy Report. At the event, Dave had a chance to speak with MP Tom Osborne about the coop sector in NL. Also pictured is Dave and David Daughton with the Prince Edward Island Co-operative Council.

The event also featured Andrew Pakes, Member of Parliament and the UK Government envoy for co-operatives and mutuals. His discussion surrounded the UK's recent commitment to double the size of their co-operative and mutuals economy, as well as ensuring that the correct policy, regulatory, and capital conditions are in place to facilitate the growth. With such goals in place, Canada hopes to continue building a strong partnership with the UK with potential for future collaborations.

With $61.1 billion contributed to Canada's GDP, 6,173 co-operatives, credit unions, caisses and mutuals, operating across Canada, and more than 1 billion members of co-operatives worldwide, co-operatives are poised to continue building stronger and more stable communities across the world.
