Newfoundland-Labrador Federation of Co-operatives The Provincial Association representing and supporting the Co-op & Credit Union Sector of NL

We're Back!

Over the past several months, we've been working behind the scenes to take the next step in building Newfoundland and Labrador's glass recycling industry.

We're excited to share that NewfoundSAND has secured a new operating location and recently received support through an AECU Community Program Grant to advance the development of concrete products made with recycled glass sand.

This funding will help us explore new ways to transform waste glass into valuable local products, supporting waste diversion, innovation, and a more circular economy right here in our province.

As we continue to grow, we're also excited to announce our next public glass collection event at the St John's Farmers Market:

📅 June 20, 2026

Every bottle and jar collected helps demonstrate that waste glass has value and can be put to work in our communities.

To everyone who has donated glass, volunteered, partnered with us, or supported our mission over the years—thank you. Your support has helped bring us to this exciting stage, and we're just getting started.

Stay tuned for more details about the collection event, our new facility, and upcoming product development projects.

Together, we're turning waste into opportunity for the good of the land!

New Tax Measures for the Co-operative Sector in 2026 Spring Economic Update 💲

The announcement of the 2026 Spring Economic Statement included welcome news for the co-operative sector: the $10 million capital gains tax exemption for business conversions to worker co-operatives and Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs) is now permanent. This measure allows for better succession planning, allowing business owners the time needed to choose the co-operative model with confidence, as well as the ability to keep more businesses within Canada. Read more from Co-op Canada’s report below.
