💰 "The prices of food in this province have gone way out of whack," says Sandra Milmore, a longtime community volunteer from Mt. Pearl in a CBC Radio interview on Friday morning.

This week, we spoke to national media, local media, elected representatives -- and whoever would listen -- when our province's food banks met.

You can find food bank volunteers and staff from across Newfoundland and Labrador on national TV, local radio, online, and across social media sharing what they are witnessing about what it's costing people just trying to live.

Thanks to the investigative young reporters covering this story, we also talked about concrete solutions -- both short-term, to help our neighbours right now, and long-term, so that we don't just accept as normal that 10 out of every 100 people in our province lives with poverty.

🍃🌊 “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”: The costs of food, housing, transportation and other necessities of life are causing far too many of us to struggle.

But action is an antidote to despair. All across our province and our country, people care, they are learning about the situation, and they are taking action to help their neighbours and create change.

Food Banks Canada released its annual national HungerCount report today. It reflects what many of us already know too well.

Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, we know communities make it through hard seasons when people look out for each other. It's all hands together that are going to turn this around. And all of us who can help to make things better in our community. 🌊🌲

🚍🍎 A big thank you to everyone in the community who gave through this year’s VOCM Cares Thanksgiving Food Drive! So many people gave from the heart at NLSchools, their local Sobeys, on Metrobus and online. One of our team members saw a Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador employee donate food *every single morning* when they got on the bus. We were grateful to receive one of a number of food shipments from the drive just before the Thanksgiving weekend. And to meet some of the great Metrobus staff who have been powering this campaign each year. Thank you to everyone! ☂️ 💖

This Thanksgiving, Cassidy Whelan and the team from GoodLife Fitness in Atlantic Place, Downtown St. John's showed that their hearts are strong too, delivering over 200 pounds of groceries from their food drive. 🙏🏼 Thankful for people: This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for people all over Newfoundland and Labrador who are thinking about their neighbours, caring about their neighbours, and supporting action that helps to take care of everyone. Alisa Woodworth from the Scotiabank branch in the Torbay Road Plaza, St. John’s set up a food drive at work for Thanksgiving. Both staff and clients gave food – some stopping in other stores in the plaza to buy groceries to give. It’s a reminder of how many people care about our community and want to be sure that all of us have enough. 🍂 🌊

🍎📚 Educators feed the future: MUN Faculty of Education students Claire O’Brien and Alicia Pierce delivered their student society’s food drive in the rain! Future teachers and future leaders from the Class of 2028 took initiative, worked together and delivered. Thank you to the Memorial University Students from the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) 1st Degree program who are stepping up and re-imagining a better future. 🍂 ❤️
