πŸ€”πŸ₯— Did you know? There are about 60 food banks in communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. This summer, The Food Bank Network of the Bay of Islands Ministerial Association, Inc. in Corner Brook was one of our province’s food banks who warmly welcomed Meet the Walkers as they trekked across the island raising funds for the Community Food Sharing Association.

Here, outlet supervisor and Salvation Army community worker Jane Ash and network coordinator Damian Power are pictured with The Walkers. Jane made the visitors a meal of homemade toutons and the hosts and guests learned about each others’ work and plans. πŸ₯ž

The Food Bank Network of the Bay of Islands is grounded in the Newfoundland tradition of large families and neighbours helping each other. The Walkers aspire to walk across Canada raising funds and awareness to support community services. They just finished their first provincial trek in Newfoundland and have so far raised over $16,000 from generous supporters for the Community Food Sharing Association.

πŸ™ŒπŸ½ Thank you to No Frills customers at The Village Shopping Centre and owner Bev Cave for this important support for food banks across our province! πŸ₯—

I want to send a very sincere thank you to our Bev’s No Frills Customers.

Recently, we participated in the Give A Little Help A lot Campaign and you generously donated $1206 in support of the Community Food Sharing Association. I was able to present that check to Tina Bishop today.

We are very grateful to our very generous customers! We may have presented that check today, but that donation is all from you❀️

πŸŽ₯🎬 In a very cool synchronicity, the way Meet the Walkers end all of their online videos about walking across Newfoundland is very similar to the title of local author and inspirational speaker Sheldon S. Crocker's book: "Keep on Walking."

In a lovely twist of fate, they all met in St. John's on the Walkers' last night on the island. Sheldon gave each walker a personally signed copy of his book and they shared stories of their journeys.

The Walkers just trekked across Newfoundland raising money for the Community Food Sharing Association. Sheldon defied early medical predictions that he would never be able to walk and has even completed the Tely 10 Mile Road Race.

πŸ‘‹πŸ½ We said goodbye for now to Meet the Walkers in St. John's last night. This group of friends just walked across Newfoundland, raised $13,000 and counting for the Community Food Sharing Association, and made hundreds of friends along the way.

Many thanks to City of St. John's Councillor Jill Bruce who came out to see them off, showing the same warm hospitality this lovely group has encountered across the island.

To the Walkers, we loved meeting you! And appreciate your positive energy and all of the public awareness and helpful funds you've gathered. We'll see you again! 🫢🏽
