This year, two members of the Sidney Volunteer Firefighters Association are taking on an incredible challenge as part of the 2026 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team🚲

As Tour de Rock fundraising efforts continue across Vancouver Island, we're pleased to help spread the word about one of the many events supporting this important cause. Every ticket purchased and every donation helps fund vital childhood cancer research and support programs.

The Tour de Rock is more than a cycling event. It is a commitment to supporting children and families impacted by cancer through fundraising, awareness, and community connection. For 14 days, riders will cycle the length of Vancouver Island, carrying with them the hopes of countless young cancer fighters.

🚒 Sidney Fire Department Deploys to Support Provincial Wildfire Response

The Town of Sidney Fire Department is sending a crew of three firefighters to assist with the ongoing wildfire situation in British Columbia.

We are incredibly grateful to these members for stepping forward and taking time away from their families and personal lives to support communities across our province during this challenging time.

We also want to recognize and thank the members remaining here at home. Their commitment ensures we continue to maintain 24-hour staffing and a quick emergency response for the residents and visitors of Sidney while supporting this provincial deployment.

Please join us in wishing our crew safe travels and a safe deployment. We are proud of your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving others wherever help is needed.

Today, on National Wildland Firefighter Day, we honor the dedication of wildland fire fighters and remember those who gave their lives protecting others.

This year's observance comes just days after three wildland fire fighters were killed in the line of duty, a solemn reminder of the risks these responders face every day.

As wildfire seasons grow longer and more dangerous, the IAFF remains committed to advancing wildfire training and education to help fire fighters respond safely and effectively.

Join us on Saturday, July 18 from 11:00am – 3:00pm at Chilco Park in View Royal for a FREE family friendly BBQ event hosted by the View Royal FireSmart Program.

There will be information booths and displays, outdoor games and activities, face painting and a visit from our local View Royal firefighters in a fire truck.

Come by, grab a hot dog or hamburger, a refreshment and learn about wildfires and how you can prepare.
