Thank you to Huron County Pride - this is great information for our students and educators alike!

Today has been a tough day for our local 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies. And we recognize that the flag poles incidents are not isolated. Youth and adults alike have been facing incidents of discrimination and bullying, and facing a rise in hate rhetoric, particularly aimed at our trans and gender non-conforming siblings.

You are not alone. You matter. You have a community who is here for you. You have resources locally and at your fingertips to help you navigate through this and help you be the authentic, wonderful person you are meant to be. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of those organizations.

And don't hesitate to reach out to us as well. Huron County Pride is here for you, and for all our 2SLGBTQIA+ siblings. We are deeply troubled by the recent acts of vandalism at some Perth County schools, where flagpoles flying the Pride flag were deliberately cut down. These actions are not only disrespectful, they are rooted in hate and have no place in our schools or communities.
OSSTF D8 stands in unwavering solidarity with our 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, and families. Pride symbols represent safety, inclusion, and the fundamental right for everyone to be seen and valued for who they are. Attempts to silence or erase these voices only strengthen our resolve to advocate for equity and respect.
We reaffirm our commitment to creating safe, inclusive learning environments for all, and we call on our community to stand together in rejecting hate in all its forms. Love, acceptance, and dignity must always rise above intolerance.

A reminder that the Anonymous Reporting Tool is available on each school's website. Whether it's concerns about bullying, racism, discrimination, or other harmful behaviours, your voice matters. We encourage students, parents, and staff to continue using this tool to ensure that our schools remain spaces where all students can thrive, free from fear. Together, we can make a difference and build a stronger, more supportive community.

No one should face bullying, discrimination, or hate in our schools. If you see something, say something.
