Canadian Lifeboat Institution Inc. The CLI is recognized by the Canadian Coast Guard as part of 'Team SAR'. We accept donations via PayPal, CanadaHelps, Interac e-Transfer, or cheque/money order.

We provide vessel-of-opportunity marine search and rescue capabilities as well as support for mariners in the coastal waters of the Strait of Georgia and the lower Fraser River. The Canadian Lifeboat Institution (CLI) is a federally registered charity, number BN 88999-8977-RR0001. Operational and administrative staff are all volunteers, and the organization relies on public funding through persona

l donations, corporate sponsorship, and a BC Community Gaming Grant. The CLI is a member of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) and its crew are members of Emergency Management BC.

Last Thursday, 11 Jun, we trialed our brand new Merc 4HP outboard on Fraser Lifeboat's Xboat. For some crew, this was their first time using an outboard; we all have to learn at some time. There are still things to work out, but it's a good start.

Fraser Lifeboat attended the Blessing of the Fleet ceremonies in False Creek today. This annual event blesses the fishing fleet and rescue services vessels before the busy fishing season gets underway. Crews later enjoyed a BBQ. A Whale was spotted nearby on our way home off UBC & for the first time, we flew our whale in area flag. We also spotted a bundle of logs broken free from a log boom and reported to Coast Guard Radio.

On Thursday 28 May, Fraser Lifeboat crew conducted a proof of concept of the Xboat. Juan brought his 2.5hp outboard and we connected the mounting bracket and took it out for a spin. The outboard was a bit tempermental but showed we could use an outboard successfully.

On 11 April 2026, the CLI conducted its first Pleasure Craft Courtesy Check (PCCC) for the Royal City Yacht Club at Hampton Cove Marina in Ladner, BC. We did checks for just over 12 vessels of all sizes, and everyone passed and received their annual compliance sticker for the year. A wonderful potluck lunch was held on the dock and enjoyed by everyone in attendance. A nice donation was received in thanks by the club, and we truly thank them for participating in this boating safety event.
