We provide vessel-of-opportunity marine search and rescue capabilities as well as support for mariners in the coastal waters of the Strait of Georgia and the lower Fraser River. The Canadian Lifeboat Institution (CLI) is a federally registered charity, number BN 88999-8977-RR0001. Operational and administrative staff are all volunteers, and the organization relies on public funding through persona

l donations, corporate sponsorship, and a BC Community Gaming Grant. The CLI is a member of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) and its crew are members of Emergency Management BC.

On Saturday 22 Aug sailed past the at Richmond Maritime Festival. We then conducted a fishery patrol. Near Steveston Bend we witnessed a sailboat cross through the jetty into the mud flats. It went aground and we prepared to see if we could tow. The sailboat worked itself free on its own and we cautioned them to not go to that side of jetty. They proceeded to SandHeads unscathed.

While conducting training, Fraser Lifeboat noticed a ladder had come off one of the Fraser River jetty beacons. This was reported to Coast Guard Radio, after which we continued training. After conducting search pattern training, we put our new MOB davit to use. After a successful recovery, we tested the new outboard sling, using the davit to hoist up the outboard from the Xboat. This saves the crew's back and makes a lift easy.
