What can a triathlon teach you about building a business?

For Woody Paylor, quite a lot.

Long before Woody's RV World Alberta became a multi location dealership group, Woody was developing another kind of endurance. As an elite triathlete, he learned to pace himself, stay focused when the road got tough, compete against his own limits and keep moving toward the finish line.

Those same qualities showed up in his approach to business.

Woody didnโ€™t measure success only by beating the competition. He believed the real competition was with yourself: your management, your team, your standards and your last achievement.

His athletic mindset helped shape a long term approach to building a business, weathering economic ups and downs and contributing to the broader RV industry.

And perhaps the biggest lesson for anyone building a career:
๐Ÿƒ Discipline matters.
๐Ÿšด Resilience matters.
๐ŸŠ Consistency matters.
๐ŸŽฏ And sometimes, the biggest competitor you need to beat is yesterdayโ€™s version of yourself.

Read the full story of how the triathleteโ€™s mindset helped shape Woodyโ€™s RV World.

In the early 1980s, the economic landscape of Alberta was a testing ground for the resilient. For Woody Paylor, the foundation of a future multi-location success story was not laid in a high-rise boardroom, but on the unyielding gravel of a Red Deer driveway. Having spent eighteen years earning a de

What can a career in the RV industry become?

For John Petrie, it became a 50-plus-year family legacy. ๐Ÿš

John recently received the 2026 Ontario RV Dealer of the Year Award, recognizing a career shaped by family, customer relationships, community involvement and commitment to the RV industry.

His story began with Niagara Trailers, founded by his parents Doug and Anna in 1972 with just three Master Coach Travel Trailers.

Today, the dealership has grown to more than 400 trailers across 20-plus acres. But perhaps the most important part of the story is what hasn't changed: the importance of people.

John credits his team. The dealership values its customers. And his career has included giving back to both his community and the industry.

That's one of the things that makes an RV career so rewarding. You aren't just building a business. You're building relationships, skills and something that can last for generations.

Read Johnโ€™s story on RV Careers. ๐Ÿ‘‡

A career in the RV industry can take many forms. For John Petrie of Niagara Trailers , it has meant more than five decades of family business, customer relationships, community involvement and a commitment to the industry. That commitment was recently recognized when John was named the 2026 Ontar

Think an RV career means spending your whole day inside a dealership? Think again. ๐Ÿš

Sometimes the job takes you to a campground.

For RV salespeople, that might mean delivering a new RV, meeting customers where they camp, answering questions around the campfire or making connections at a campground event.

For technicians, it could mean troubleshooting an issue on site, helping an RVer get back on the road or seeing firsthand how customers use the RVs they work on.

And sometimesโ€ฆ the job comes with costumes. ๐Ÿ‘ป๐ŸŽƒ

That's one of the things that makes working in the RV industry interesting: your office doesn't always have four walls.

One registration. Two people in the room. Twice the perspective.

Whoโ€™s the person at your dealership youโ€™d want beside you in Las Vegas?

Your right hand?
Your future leader?
The person who always has a different take?
The colleague who should be part of the conversation?

Through August 31, register one attendee for the 2026 RV Dealers Convention/Expo and bring a colleague at no additional cost.

From leadership and fixed operations to technology, customer experience and the ideas shaping the future of RV retail, thereโ€™s plenty to bring back to the dealership.

And sometimes the best part of a great session is the conversation afterward: โ€œWhat if we tried that?โ€

โค๏ธ Some careers are built around a job. Others are built around a purpose.

For Bill Sheffer, that purpose was helping people experience the joy of RVing.

After 41 years in the industry, Bill is being inducted into the 2026 RV/MH Hall Of Fame for his leadership, advocacy and work promoting the RV lifestyle.

His career as Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Manufactured Housing, RVs and Campgrounds was shaped by something that started long before his professional life: family camping trips.

He found a career connected to something he already loved.

And along the way, he built relationships, created opportunities and helped champion an industry that brings families together.

That's a pretty good reminder that a career doesn't have to be just a job.

Congratulations, Bill! ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ”ง It started one RV appliance at a time.

In 1970, Bob Been began his RV career repairing RV appliances from his home.

More than five decades later, he's the founder of Affinity RV Service, Sales & Rentals, VP Industry Relations at Blue Compass RV and Chair of the RV Dealers Association of America.

That's quite a career journey.

But the principle that guided him from the beginning hasn't changed: solve the problem in front of you, treat people with respect and help families get safely back on the road.

Bob's story is a great reminder that you don't need to know where your entire career is headed when you start.

Learn the trade. Take care of people. Keep showing up. See where the road takes you.

๐Ÿ† Congratulations to Bob Been on his 2026 RV/MH Hall Of Fame induction!

๐Ÿ“Š Not every RV career happens on the dealership lot or inside a manufacturing plant.

Just ask Dr. Richard Curtin.

Over a 45 year career, the University of Michigan professor and researcher authored more than 1,500 reports on consumer expectations and provided economic and consumer insight that helped the RV industry understand where the market was heading.

His research contributed to the development of the RVIA's Roadsigns Quarterly Forecasts, helping the industry better understand demand and anticipate sales.

That's a career built on asking questions, following the data and being curious about why people do what they do.

For anyone who loves research, economics, data or simply asking "But why?" there are some pretty interesting career paths waiting in the RV industry.

Congratulations to Dr. Richard Curtin on his induction into the 2026 RV/MH Hall Of Fame! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ’ก What does it take to build a 46 year career in the RV industry?

According to 2026 RV/MH Hall Of Fame inductee Brian Brady, quite a bit of perseverance, adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking.

Brian began his career in 1975 as a purchasing manager at Coachmen Recreational Vehicles He went on to become a sales representative, co-owner and president of Damon Corporation, and eventually President and CEO of Heartland RVs.

Along the way, he helped introduce innovations that changed RV design, including a front-cap design that improved turning radius and a drop-frame chassis that created more storage space for RVers.

His career is a pretty good reminder that you don't have to start at the top to make a big impact.

You just have to keep learning, recognize opportunities and be willing to take the next step.

Congratulations, Brian! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ† 47 years. One incredible RV career.

Garry Enyart started in the RV industry as a sales representative for Onan in 1972. Over the next five decades, he grew into leadership roles at Cummins Inc ultimately becoming RV Generator Business Director.

But his career wasn't just about climbing the corporate ladder. Garry became a champion for industry collaboration, workforce development and finding better ways to solve industry challenges.

He helped lead the RV industry's response during COVID, served as RV Industry Association Board Chair and led the Six Sigma RECT project, which helped lay the groundwork for the RV Technical Institute.

Now that's a career with some serious mileage. ๐Ÿš

Congratulations to Garry on his induction into the RV/MH Hall Of Fame and on 47 years of making the RV industry stronger.
