Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre and Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on October 31, 2026 along with the following activities:
Air curtain burners
Carbonizers
Binary exploding targets
Burn Barrels or Burn Cages
Controlled air incinerators
Fireworks, as define in the Fireworks Act of B.C.

A campfire is defined as:
Any fire no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide (a fire larger than this is considered a Category 2 fire).
Used by any person for recreational purposes or by a First Nation for a ceremonial purpose.

Other activities which were previously included in the category 1 campfire prohibition will now be permitted in the Cariboo Fire Centre:
The use of sky lanterns
The use of wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building
