The purposes of the foundation are as follows:

1. To raise the awareness of the need to fund cancer research.

Since 1997 we have fund-raised in memory of Michael Cuccione, with all proceeds going towards the Michael Cuccione Childhood Cancer Research Program at the Child & Family Research Institute at BC Childrens Hospital Research Institute. To raise funds, receive bequests, gifts and voluntary donations of every kind and accumulate a fund, and to expend or administer this fund or the proceeds thereof, or the income from the fund, exclusively for cancer research and for the use of children's hospitals located in Canada and North America.

2. In order to inspire others to assist with the Foundation's cause, to conduct motivational speaking engagements at schools, at businesses, and at different levels of government.

3. To provide emotional support to cancer patients and their families.

4. To organize an annual dinner/dance, an annual golf tournament, and other varieties of events.

5. To promote all these activities throughout Canada and the world.

BC Children’s Hospital, precision medicine means matching children to treatments built for their cancer’s exact profile.

That’s where OPTIMISE comes in — a Canadian first study designed to help more kids access targeted treatments based on the specific genetic changes found in their tumour. When genetic testing reveals a specific change, Dr. Rebecca Deyell and her team work to connect that child to therapies designed for their tumour’s unique blueprint.

“This is a major step forward because it allows us to connect kids with gene changes to treatments,” says Dr. Rebecca Deyell, pediatric oncologist and Mojgan Mowafaghian Chair in Oncology Research.

Michael had a wisdom far beyond his years. His experience with cancer meant he had to grow up faster than many of his peers, but it also gave him a deeper understanding of life and a strong desire to do something good with the time he had.

Even at a young age, Michael wanted to make a difference in this world — and he did. His compassion, determination, and vision continue to inspire us to this day. 💛

They say a person lives for as long as the memories of them live.

Although Michael is no longer with us in this world, his presence is still felt to this day. Through the memories we hold, the lives he touched, and the legacy he created, his spirit continues to live on.

Michael’s dream continues to inspire us, and his vision of a future without childhood cancer lives on through the research made possible by his legacy. 💛

We want to thank each and every one of you who supported us in raising an incredible $466,340 for such an important cause. Thank you to everyone who showed up, gave us hugs, laughed with us, cried with us, donated, and supported us along the way.

For 31 years, The Michael Cuccione Foundation has been on a mission to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.

Michael started his own foundation with a dream—a dream to find a cure for cancer.

And because of the collective efforts of so many incredible people over the years, that dream continues to live on. Today, CAR-T immunotherapy clinical trials have helped save 20 children who otherwise could have been in Michael’s shoes. Instead, these children are here, living their lives. ❤️

That is why we do what we do.

We are raw. We are real. And, as our precious Michael would say:

“ONE PERSON CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH, BUT TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!”
