Kacey Hughes is one of the recipients of 2025 Kwi Am Choi Scholarships offered at PoMoArts. She is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Surrey.

The Kwi Am Choi Scholarship supported Kacey in installing her first significant exhibition since graduating from her BFA program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Her exhibition 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦 presented an imaginative museum of the future, envisioning our contemporary world as if unearthed and examined through the lens of ancient anthropological artifacts.

"I really do see this as the first step in my career as an artist. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and that it's been such a positive experience that I hope helps me to build momentum and push me forward into my career as an emerging artist. "

👉 Apply by November 22, 2026 to showcase your work in a public gallery, gain mentorship, and connect with other artists and arts professionals!

Rosemary Burd, Heather Talbot, and Marisa Myrah present a collaborative dialogue between their practices in 𝘙𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, inspired by their walks in West Coast forests.

Shifting between micro and macro perspectives, their works invite close reflection on intricate ecosystems and our relationships to them.

“We are three artists who find inspiration in our walks in the woods. We envision our exhibit as a dialogue between our complementary art practices, exploring how, in very different ways, our painted, stitched, and felted pieces capture our experiences of West Coast forests. We invite gallery visitors to move between our macro and micro views, our focused and blurred scenes, and see through artist eyes how the seemingly ordinary can become extraordinary.”

Together, Marisa Myrah’s oil and watercolour paintings, Heather Talbot’s photorealistic needle-felted pieces, and Rosemary Burd’s embroidered photographs reflect a shared attentiveness towards the fragility of these spaces.

🖼️ On display in the Beedie Living Gallery at PoMoArts until October 25, 2026.

Yeonmi Kim's exhibition 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 addresses sustainability, consumer culture, and environmental stewardship using reclaimed materials and discarded plastic.

Drawing from her background in fashion and interior design, Yeonmi sews discarded single-use plastic into patterned textiles and forms.

𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 draws on Yeonmi's experience of living in harmony with nature, while prompting reflection on our shared responsibility to the environment.

"My recent work transforms discarded plastic packaging into colorful sewn wall panels and installations, presented alongside handmade chairs. The artworks address consumerism, sustainability, and fast fashion while portraying East Asian themes such as hanbok and mandalas. By transforming waste into artwork, I hope the work offers both a reflection on our environment and an enjoyable experience of color, culture, and craftsmanship."

🖼️ On display in the Ann Kitching Gallery at PoMoArts until October 26, 2026.
