And...that's a wrap on our first YCA course of the 26-27 season. It was also our first fashion design course with the always energetic & ever-attentive . Our young designers have learned heaps of new skills to add to their creators' toolkits. We know the sewing won't stop here.

We hope you'll join us at next week's for the big reveal to see what our YCA participants made with their newly increased materials literacy. Come find us November 6-8 at the County Arts Lab in the Armoury building on Picton's Main Street.

A huge and heartfelt thanks to our instructors, volunteers, YCA families, and our donors, who made this important learning opportunity for youth in our community possible.

Some behind the scenes snaps from yesterday's Textiles course with We can hardly believe it's already week 6! Time has simply flown by with this great group of creative youth.

Next week we'll finish our upcycled garments and get them ready for Come check out our YCA booth November 6-8 and meet the makers. Learning how to speak about our creations is an important part of the experience and the business of craft. The Maker's Hand is the perfect opportunity to practice what we're learning. Come visit us! We're almost ready for you.

Youth Craft Academy is on the radio! Last week, YCA textiles instructor & Program Lead, Allison Nichol Longtin sat down with Artscene's Sarah Moran to talk about the program's 26-27 Fall offerings.

Tune in to 99.3 County FM on Friday October 23rd at noon during Grapevine to hear the Artscene to learn more about the program, including what's next for YCA and hear from youth participants about their experience. Artscene is rebroadcast on Friday evenings, following the 6PM news. Don't miss it!

It's week 5 of our YCA Textiles course with @ & our youth are making awesome progress with their sustainable creations. They're giving new life to old articles of clothing & making them their own.

We had a couple extra pairs of hands on deck this week with sewing-savvy volunteers joining us in the lab. We're so grateful for all the support we're seeing from the community. Our youth are well supported in their creative pursuits at YCA. The countdown to the big reveal is on! Stay tuned.

Meet our instructors! Rebecca Heasman of is joining us again this year for Ceramics Level II - Impressions: How clay permeates time. Registration is open for this 4-week course that kicks off November 11th. Link to register in bio.

Rebecca is a PEC-based ceramic artist. She lives with her partner and cattle dog in a 1960’s cottage, creating her wheelthrown, handbuilt, and slipcast work out of a modest home studio surrounded by nature. Rebecca finds solace and inspiration from the natural world.

She creates both functional and experimental work that is for and of nature; whether that’s bird houses and water fountains, or depictions of the land around her and the topography under our feet. Rebecca’s work is currently exhibited in the 2026 Connect Online by Fusion Clay and Glass.

It's week 4 of our YCA Textiles course with and our group's designs are really starting to take shape. This week we saw youth measuring, cutting, sewing, and pinning. It's really happening! We can't wait to share these hand-crafted pieces with you. Join us at our YCA booth at November 6-8 in The Armoury building. Come chat with our team and meet the makers.

Our small class sizes at YCA mean that participating youth have hands-on support from not one, but two instructors. As youth learn how to use our new sewing machines and turn their sketches into designs, and designs into wearable art, instructors with support from @ are close by to trouble-shoot, inspire, and offer a helping hand (or two!), drawing from their wealth of experience as practicing artists, artisans, and craftspeople.

Meet our YCA instructors! is our first instructor of the 26-27 YCA season. His textiles course, Closet Rework is all about giving reclaimed textiles new life and discovering creative ways to turn overlooked materials into wearable designs.

Andrew is a multidisciplinary artist and bespoke designer. His work includes one-of-a-kind bow ties, fabric butterfly accessories inspired by origami, shirt dresses and vests made from remnant fabrics, giving once-used materials a fresh purpose through thoughtful new designs.

Born in Indonesia, Andrew is a graduate of RMIT University's Fashion Design program in Melbourne, Australia and Humber College's Creative Photography program in Toronto.

Andrew is passionate about exploring sustainable approaches to fashion by repurposing pre-loved clothing and overlooked materials into something new to wear.

As an instructor, he encourages young makers to develop sewing skills, experiment with materials, and discover the creativity and confidence that come from making something unique by hand. We're delighted to have Andrew with us this Fall at YCA.
