🌶️ A little heat, a lot of teamwork! 🌶️

Our Grade 7 & 8 crew turned up the heat on September 29 with a hot sauce-making workshop at theROC! 🔥

Youth harvested hot peppers and other ingredients straight from our garden, then followed a recipe generously shared by our volunteer, Remi. With guidance from Cheryl at South Shore Joint Initiative, they got hands-on in the kitchen and turned our garden harvest into some seriously tasty hot sauce!

The best part? Everyone got to take home their own batch, and we saved some extra sauce to spice up lunches at theROC! 🌶️🍽️

💜 A HUGE thank-you to everyone who helped make this workshop possible! Thank you to Remi for sharing the recipe, Cheryl and the South Shore Joint Initiative for guiding our youth through the entire process (from planting to cooking!), Vicki’s Veggies for the seedlings that turned into incredible produce, and the funders who supported this collab through SSJI.

We’re grateful for the community support that helps our youth grow new skills, try new things, and turn fresh ingredients into something delicious. 🌱🌶️

🎃 A little spooky season field trip! 👻

This week, both our Grade 7/8 and high school groups headed down to Macaulay House to lend a hand to the amazing Team Terror as they get ready for their upcoming events!

Our youth helped with decorating, setting up and getting Macaulay House ready for the Scarecrow Festival happening this weekend, October 10 & 11, and Terror at Macaulay coming up on October 24! 🕸️

A huge thank you to Team Terror for having us, we had so much fun helping bring a little spooky magic to Macaulay House! 🎃👻

🧡 We’re wearing orange today to honour the children and Survivors of residential schools and to recognize the importance of listening, learning and continuing the work of reconciliation.

🎃 Help us make some spooky magic! 👻

We’re looking for about 20 pumpkins to help our youth get into the Halloween spirit!

On October 20 & 21, youth in Grades 7 & 8 and Grades 9-12 will be putting their creativity (and carving skills!) to work during pumpkin carving workshops at theROC. But the fun doesn’t stop there - once the pumpkins are carved, they’ll be heading to Terror at Macaulay, where they’ll help bring the spooky season to life! 🕸️

🎃 We’d love to connect with a local farm that might be willing to donate pumpkins from this year’s crop. Not a farm, but still want to help? Individual pumpkin donations are welcome, too! Every pumpkin helps give a young person a chance to create, contribute, and be part of something happening in their community.

If you or a local grower can help us out, please send us a message on social media, or reach out to Whitney directly:

✨ Shining a spotlight on some of the faces you’ll see around theROC this year! ✨

Meet Daytona! 💛 Daytona has been part of our lunch crew for a whole year and we’re so happy to have her around the centre!

When she’s not cooking up lunch for our youth, you can probably find her listening to Taylor Swift because she’s a HUGE Swiftie!🪩✨

We’re so grateful to have you as part of our lunch crew, Daytona! 🫶
