We want your old phones and electronics! Fires at landfills and recycling facilities are increasing due to improperly disposed lithium batteries.

Batteries, especially those that contain lithium, should never go in the garbage. Please bring all your batteries and battery powered devices to the Recycling Depot for safe handling.

Dropoff of these items is free of charge. The cost of recycling is paid for by the eco fees collected when you purchase♻️

Damaged lithium batteries can burn at high temperature and are difficult to extinguish. Our staff are trained to safely prepare batteries for shipping, as well as identify and isolate damaged batteries that could pose a hazard. Thanks for working with us to help keep people and the environment safe🌳

Did you know?? Memberships are not required to access recycling services, and we do not receive tax money for operations♻️

We are going over the survey results and wanted to take the chance and explain a few misconceptions about the recycling depot:

1. Memberships are not required to use the recycling depot. It is a service and you do not need to pay for access. If you would like to purchase a VOLUNTARY, tax deductible, annual membership to the P.I. Recycling Society the minimum to issue a tax receipt is $20. We will give you our heartfelt thanks, and a receipt for your taxes. Membership donations, and the money we receive from your donations of refundable drink containers, help us make improvements to our 35 year old site, maintain equipment, and pay our workers a fair living wage.

2. We do not receive direct tax dollars to fund recycling operations. The CRD does not levy taxes for recycling or waste disposal. The funds we receive from the CRD for collecting Household Packaging come from the tipping fees generated by Hartland Landfill.

BC's recycling system is funded by the industries that produce the products, not taxes. In this way, you will never pay for the recycling of your neighbor's television set or the cardboard box it arrived in. Producers often choose pass this cost on to consumers, but you as an individual only pay to recycle the products and packaging you consume. This system has been in place for over a decade now.

Exiting day at the Depot! Interchange Recycling delivered a container for our used motor oil and antifreeze recycling program.
