The Mayne Island Housing Society appreciates the work MLA Rob Botterell is doing to highlight the hardship created by the cancellation of affordable housing funding in the recent BC Government budget. The consequences of this decision affects those in our communities who are experiencing housing insecurity as well as those volunteer non-profit societies working diligently to create solutions to this housing crisis. The housing societies have put in many long hours at great personal and financial expense to develop housing projects suitable to attract a portion of the billions of dollars in capital and operational funding which had been allocated by the provincial government in the Community Housing Fund, and were already in a procurement process, and are now cancelled. Thank you to Rob for his support. We look forward to working together with Rob and other housing societies in the Southern Gulf Islands Societies to continue to move this agenda forward and to find ways to finance our well developed housing projects.

🏠BIG NEWS for Mayne Island! 🏠

We are thrilled to announce a historic milestone for the Salish Grove Affordable Housing Project. The Mayne Island Housing Society (MIHS) has officially completed the subdivision process and secured the land title for 365 Village Bay Road! 🔑

This achievement brings our vision for 10 units of affordable, sustainable housing closer to reality. A huge thank you to Dr. Sean McHugh and his family for their incredible generosity in donating this land. 🌳

The Journey So Far:
• 2020–2023: Completed rigorous rezoning, including ecological reports, wetland restoration plans, and securing a sustainable water source.

• 2023–2026: Received official subdivision approval from the Ministry of Transportation, CRD, and Islands Trust.
• Design: Finalized detailed building plans that harmonize with our beautiful island landscape while meeting top safety standards.

We are committed to Environmental Stewardship and community resilience. Together, we’re building a more inclusive future for Mayne Island! 🌊🤝
