Next week, Heritage Ottawa hosts "24 Sussex and the Wreckers' Ball."

This lecture examines, "... what happened inside the walls of 24 Sussex over a tumultuous modern era in Canada," and argues, "... the built legacy of 24 Sussex should be largely left alone."

Veteran investigative journalist Dean Beeby — co-author (with Ian Bailey) of "24 Sussex Drive: The Past and Future of Canada's Official Residence" (Sutherland House) — is the event’s featured speaker.

🏳️‍🌈 : 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument Unveiled

Earlier this month, Winnipeg-based Public City publicly unveiled Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument.

Thunderhead Monument recognizes the historic discrimination faced by 2SLGBTQI+ people in Canada, including during the LGBT Purge.

Selected through an international design competition, this monument was conceptualized by an all-Canadian team led by Public City, alongside Elder Albert McLeod and artists Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan.

🎧 Meet the Guardians of Graffiti

On this week’s episode of “This Is Ottawa” with Robyn Bresnahan ( CBC/Radio-Canada ), Bresnahan interviews local software developer Joseph Malovic.

Malovic is the creator behind Ottawalls — an interactive mural map of the National Capital region’s public art.

A community-led mission, the site “documents the stories, murals, locations, and artists defining our city's urban art.”
