Due to historically low runoff and water levels in reservoirs fed by the Colorado River, the US Department of the Interior will be cutting the water it allocates through the river to Arizona, Nevada and Californian 2027 and 2028. The Colorado River provides water to 40 million people, generates hydropower for seven states, and is a vital resource for 30 tribes and two Mexican states. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said that “Forty million people, millions of acres of farmland and ranchland, industries that power the American West, and some of our nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas depend on the Colorado River.” Exactly! The UK is planning to house 1250 illegal migrants, mostly single males between the ages of 18 and 65, at the former military base RAF Barnham. The town of Barnham has a population of less than 600. This is part of a wider plan to move migrants out of hotels. In 2023, 400 hotels were being used to house migrants at a cost of £9m a day or over £3bn for the year. In September that year, the number of those being housed in hotels hit a peak of 56,000. Many residents of Barnham and nearby Thetford (population 26,000) say the proposed influx of migrants to RAF Barnham has made them feel unsafe. There have been protests and some arrests. Is anyone else curious about why these asylum seekers are overwhelmingly adult males and, if they are in fact in danger at home, what’s happening to the women and children left behind? PEI is the only Atlantic province that declined the government’s offer to let rural employers hire more temporary foreign workers. Good for PEI! The TFW program should long since have received more scrutiny, especially with a national youth unemployment rate of 12.6%, slightly higher in the Atlantic provinces. The TFW program is essentially a cheap labour program and closed work permits that tie a worker to a particular employer are especially susceptible to abuse. Labour Market Impact Assessments are also subject to fraud. They are documents that an employer completes to show he needs a foreign worker for a particular job for which he can find no Canadian or permanent resident. In reality, some employers charge foreigners who would like to come to Canada tens of thousands of dollars for an LMIA to bring them into the country. The benefit to the worker is that it could be a path to citizenship. In 2023, United Nations Special Rapporteur Tomoya Obokata said Canada’s TFW program made “migrant workers vulnerable to contemporary forms of slavery, as they cannot report abuses without fear of deportation.” Canada would do well to wean itself from the TFW program and work on hiring Canadians and permanent residents. Yes it will be more expensive and yes these resident workers will get the sick days and vacation time that the TFWs don’t. While Canada trumpets its support for the empowerment of women in its foreign aid, it seems less concerned about what happens to its female citizens back home. The case of Omogbolahan Jegede recently came to our attention. Nigerian-born Jegede moved to Canada with his parents, both professionals, in 2010, when he was 9 or 10. He grew up in culturally diverse communities in Brampton, Ontario, and Fort McMurray, Alberta, before moving to mostly white Antigonish, Nova Scotia, to attend university. There, in two incidents in 2022 and 2023, five months apart, he violently sexually assaulted two separate women. But, citing the Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA) introduced by the Trudeau government, as well as the childhood bullying Jegede experienced and feelings of pressure and isolation at Antigonish as mitigating factors, Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Frank Hoskins gave Jegede a reduced sentence totaling two years plus three years’ probation. About 23% of Canada’s population is foreign-born, and no doubt many may experience difficult cultural adjustments. Does that mean Canadian women had better watch out?! Trudeau proudly declared himself a feminist, but the message his IRCA sends to Canadian women is that they should not expect justice if they have the misfortune of being sexually assaulted by someone who is not of European descent. https://www.facebook.com/groups/letstalkalbertaindependence/posts/1961083547823178/

A decades-long drought in the western US has resulted in Lake Powell falling to its lowest level ever a few days ago, shortly after Lake Mead fell to its lowest level. Lake Mead and Lake Powell are the largest and second largest reservoirs in the United States and supply water and electricity to 40 million people in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. Of course drought is not the only reason for the shrinking reservoirs: the Colorado River that feeds them is being increasingly overused as the population drawing on it relentlessly rises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFFMSCzMX2Q

Great article by Riley Donovan at Dominion Review about how the Canadian government and some provincial governments are responding to rising opposition to mass immigration. They’ve changed their rhetoric and they’ve actually tweaked immigration levels, with Mark Carney asserting that his government has “taken back control” of immigration. Is that an admission that it really was out of control? But we suggest not putting one’s faith in a change of heart among our political leaders. They are responding to public anger at the moment. Immigration levels are still high, the temporary workers program continues, and being a student is still a pathway to immigration. The growthists are still in charge. This comes as a surprise to whom? “CBSA Report Warns Criminal Groups Exploited Canada’s Student Visa System.” The classified Canada Border Services Agency intelligence report, from December 2025, was obtained by Global News and says the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has a growing presence in Canada. In 2024, 2,418 Indian study permit holders faced a total of 13,000 charges. Between 2019 and 2023, 4,000 Indian citizens in Canada on study permits were charged with 17,929 offences. The good news is that Canada has tightened its International Student Program substantially since the period examined in the CBSA report. An interesting BBC article about how some animal populations are adapting to the urban environment and other human impacts on the environment. Some of the adaptations have occurred at astonishing speeds. The recruitment referred to in this video is probably being done through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). New Brunswick is keen to increase its population and celebrated breaking the 800,000 mark in 2022. Yet as this gentleman Mario says, one can’t help but feel that there’s a bit of legerdemain going on. With an overall unemployment rate of 6.4% and a youth unemployment rate of 12.6%, why doesn’t the federal government direct that $2 billion in funding for the trades to Canadians already living in Canada instead of actively recruiting in Mexico? If Eritrean refugee Medhani Yohans were in the US, he’d likely be among the 175,000 who had their visas revoked for criminal activities (see yesterday’s post). But lucky for Yohans (not so much for his victims), he’s in Canada, and his “Protected Person” designation can only be overridden by a “Danger Opinion.” A Canadian Border Services Agency source said that an application for that designation was turned down by headquarters, despite Yohans’ lengthy record of convictions, including for sexually assaulting women, and breach of probation since 2018, a year after he arrived in Canada. https://www.winnipegsun.com/crime/non-citizen-offender-breaches-release-within-hours/article_63583a27-8bee-4198-b9e5-a1897b392f63.html
