NAV CANADA Selects Kingston for Canada’s First-of-Its-Kind Digital Air Traffic Facility

✈️ Kingston at the Forefront of Canadian Aviation

NAV CANADA has chosen Kingston as the site of Canada’s first operational digital air traffic facility.

The new facility will use advanced cameras, microphones, sensors, infrared technology and secure networks to allow air traffic services to be provided remotely.

If successful, the Kingston facility could eventually become a permanent digital hub supporting up to 20 airports across the country.

Construction is already underway, putting Kingston at the forefront of the next generation of Canadian air traffic control. 🇨🇦✈️

When there are not enough qualified controllers available, traffic must be deliberately slowed to maintain safety. The staffing problem has taken years to develop and cannot be solved overnight. Training and qualifying an air traffic controller takes years, and relying on an already stretched workforce to continually fill the gaps through overtime is not a sustainable solution.

Controllers continue to demonstrate extraordinary professionalism under immense pressure. But dedication is not a staffing strategy. Governments and air navigation service providers must make recruitment, training, retention and resilient staffing a long-term priority.

______________

Airservices Australia confirmed ongoing rostering issues at Sydney Airport will continue this week.

International air transport is facing evolving trends, opportunities and challenges. What priorities will help support global connectivity, economic development and resilience?

These are among the objectives at the centre of the upcoming Seventh Worldwide Air Transport Conference (ATConf/7), which will be held under the theme "Air Transport: Powering Global Connectivity, Economic Development and Resilience in a Dynamic World."

Taking place from 16 to 20 November 2026 at ICAO Headquarters in Montréal, the event will bring together representatives of ICAO Member States and key stakeholders to engage in strategic dialogue on the future of international air transport.

Registration for ATConf/7 is limited only to invited delegates; however, sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are available, which offer interested organizations presence at this important event.

By sponsoring or exhibiting your organization can:

💡 Showcase its products, solutions, and services to key aviation stakeholders and decision makers.
💡 Create awareness amongst event delegates and build connections within the international aviation community.
💡 Position their organization as a benefit to key economic and regulatory priorities for air transport.
