What if a spot of sun damage is only part of the story?
Actinic keratoses may appear as isolated lesion - but the surrounding skin may also show signs of long-term sun damage. Recognizing and treating this broader area, sometimes referred to as field cancerization, is an important part of skin cancer prevention and care.
In this episode of JCMS Author Interviews, host Dr. Kirk Barber speaks with Dr. Steven Feldman about what actinic keratoses can reveal about the health of our skin, the difference between treating individual lesions and a wider area of sun-damaged skin, and when field-directed therapy may be appropriate.
Their conversation also highlights the important role dermatologists play in protecting Canadians’ health through prevention, early detection and expert treatment of skin conditions - including those that may lead to skin cancer.
