What a great fall morning at the Trail Hub! Our Chamber team joined the Durham Economic Development Partnership (DEDP) Fall Mixer, presented by Invest Durham .

Sessions from Chris Rickett of the Canadian Urban Institute and Evan Cleave of Toronto Metropolitan University gave us fresh ideas on keeping local economies strong, from our downtowns to our industrial base. There’s a lot here that could work in Durham!

BDC's chief economist Pierre Cléroux and Hart Massie of BDC Advisory Services gave us plenty to think about at the 4th Annual BDC Economic Update. Growth is slow, but Ontario isn't heading into a recession. Tariffs are hitting our manufacturers hard. And defence spending could open real doors for local businesses, especially with the City of Oshawa's National Defence Innovation Corridor taking shape.

Our Executive Director Krista Licsi has pulled together the key takeaways and what they mean for Oshawa. She also points you to the support that's out there, from BDC programs to free help finding government funding.

The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce is bringing back Women Who Lead for its second panel, and this one is all about resilience, reinvention and saying yes to new opportunities. Grab a light breakfast and hear from empowering women who have faced big transitions and come out the other side stronger.

Nancy Shaw is Senior Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships at Lakeridge Health and a former CEO of the Chamber. Georgia Fullerton is an award winning visual artist and certified expressive arts therapist who also works as an educator and consultant. Diana Cerovich owns the Biltmore Theatre in downtown Oshawa, a beloved local spot that’s picked up its own share of awards. Each of them will share what they’ve learned about navigating change and growing through it.

Eating local sounds simple until you're standing in the produce aisle.

The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and the Whitby Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for How to Eat the Seasons Locally, a joint evening that brings members from both communities into the same room. It's a cooking demo, sure. It's also a great chance to meet business owners and professionals from across Oshawa and Whitby while you learn something new.

Chef Ron will walk you through what grows locally throughout the year. You'll pick up tips for planning meals around seasonal ingredients and keeping produce fresh longer. Then he'll put it all into practice, cooking a dish made with ingredients grown right here in the province.

Come hungry. There'll be a charcuterie and Ontario cheese board, plus seasonal crudités with harvest hummus to enjoy while you mingle.
