Come see the XV Brigada Internacional and friends on November 7th as we return to the Independence Seaport Museum for FOR LIBERTY IN SPAIN 2026! The XV and friends will be portraying members of the Philadelphia section of the Friends of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion and UE Local 107 as they raise money and support for the Republican Cause in November of 1937. Can't wait to see you all there!

90 Years ago today - July 18th, 1936 - the People of Spain awoke to a War they did not wish for, but which had been thrust upon them by a clique of Military Intriguers, Mercenary Cuthroats, and Anti-Democratic Ideolouges, keen on overthrowing the Democratically Elected government of the Spanish Republic, re-establishing a totalitarian form of military government, and "cleansing" Spain in a wave of bloodshed.

In almost every major city in the Spanish Heartland, the coup failed - resisted by Loyal Soldiers, Assault and Civil Guards, and the people themselves, who spontaneously rose up in arms in defense of the ideals of Liberty and Democracy. What followed was a brutal Civil War, and the horrific and tragic destruction of Spanish Democracy, and the murder of Tens of Thousands of Spainards, by an authoritarian regime put in place by Hi**er and Mussolini, and abetted by the apathy and realpolitik intrigue of the so-called "Democratic" powers.

Today, 90 Years on, we of the XV Brigada pay solemn tribute to the people of Spain, and of the World, who fought and died in the defense of Liberty and Democracy in Spain. Their courage was unmeasurable. Their deeds are immortal.

The XV Braved the wind, the wet, and the (at times) sub-freezing temperatures this weekend to attend the amazing "Across the Centuries" at this past weekend! Portraying the Washington Battalion in training at Albacete (although at times it felt more like Tereuel), we practiced drill and open order combat maneuver the same way the Men of 1937 did. It was an Awesome event!

This past weekend, unit members Hugh Goffinet, Eric Urbanas, and Matthew Ehrlich represented the organization at the annual conference of the Association of Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies (ASPHS), presenting on the academic, research, and public education potentials and results, as practiced by the XV Brigada. We had a phenomenal reception by atendees of the conference, and look forward to future appearances at the ASPHS!

Our Unit turns 5 years old today!

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank our veterans members, our new members, our former members, and all you wonderful followers and friends of the organization for helping us be the unit we are today. We love you all, and can't wait for the future.

95 years ago today, on April 14th, 1931, the voice of the Spanish People rang out.

After decades of Military and Royal dictatorship and endemic corruption, the people of Spain drove out their king and proclaimed the Second Spanish Republic, a Constitutional and Democratic government which sought to truly represent the popular will of the Spanish People.

Today, as on every day, we remember the Republic, and the Men and Women, Spaniards and Internationals, who fought and died in its defense, and in the defense of liberty and democracy in Spain and the World.
