Kids should have kid problems, not hunger problems.

When school is out, many children lose access to school-based lunch and snack programs.

Food Banks Canada's After the Bell program helps bridge that gap by providing food packs to families with children throughout the summer months.

As the exclusive Fresh Food Sponsor of the After the Bell program, Subway Canada helps provide the fresh fruits and vegetables included in these packs, supporting children in hundreds of communities across Canada.

June 15-21, every cookie purchased at participating Subway restaurants helps ensure that kids have access to nutritious food all summer long.🍪

At Orangeville Food Bank, our clients choose their own groceries through our shopping model, which means our shelves work a lot like a grocery store. Just like a grocery store, some items move fast.

Right now, we're running low on several pantry staples and household essentials that are in high demand.

If you'd like to support the Orangeville Food Bank this month, our most-needed items are listed below.

Thank you for helping us keep nutritious food and everyday essentials available for our community.

Please note that our Neighbours Community Market at the HART Hub will be closed on Tuesday June 16th while our team participates in professional development opportunities that will help us serve our community better.

We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you back when the market resumes on Tuesday, June 23.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

From June 15–21, Subway Canada will be donating proceeds from cookie sales to Food Banks Canada in support of the After the Bell program-helping to ensure children have access to nutritious food throughout the summer months.

So go ahead… treat yourself to a cookie (or two!) and help support children this summer. It’s the sweetest way to make a difference.🍪💗

Did you know? Food banks don’t just need “meal” items, canned fruit is one of the most appreciated treats for children during the summer months when school snack programs pause.

With over 500 local children supported through the food bank every month, shelf-stable items like canned peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, and fruit cocktail help families add something nutritious, sweet, and easy to pack into lunches and snacks during the summer.

As part of our very first Can-Do Challenge, we’re encouraging the community to help us stock our shelves before the leaner months ahead.

One can really can make a difference.

Fun fact: bikes also help build a healthier, greener, and more well nourished community 💛

Now tell us… road bike, mountain bike, or “I haven’t ridden since I was 12”? 👇

Did you know? At the food bank, many non-perishable foods can still be safely distributed up to 1 year past their best before date 💛

Here’s the important part: a “best before” date is not the same thing as an expiry date.

For canned and shelf-stable foods, best before dates are often about peak freshness or texture...not food safety. In fact, studies have shown that many unopened canned goods remain perfectly safe to consume well beyond that date when stored properly.

That means less food waste, more food rescued, and more meals for local families.

So next time you’re cleaning out your pantry, don’t automatically toss those canned goods! Check them over for damage, rust, swelling, or broken seals and if they’re still in good condition, they may still be able to help feed a neighbour in need.

One can really can make a difference 💛
