Fright Nights by BGC Olds and Area and TorRock Towing is an annual community haunted house event, bringing fear, laughter, and plenty of screams to our community year after year. It has become one of our largest fundraising events of the year, while also creating incredible opportunities for youth involvement, volunteering, leadership, and community connection. It is an event that brings our staff, youth, volunteers, and community together to create something special for everyone to enjoy. 🕸️🎃

Do you know of an available building, warehouse, or unique space that could be the perfect home for Fright Nights? We are looking for a space that would be available throughout October and the first week of November to allow us time for setup, the event, and takedown.

Orange Shirt Day is a national movement that takes place on September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is an opportunity to enhance our knowledge and understanding of the history and lasting impacts of residential schools, laying the groundwork for reconciliation.

On this day, we remember and honour the children who were taken away to residential schools and reflect on the lasting impact this has had on Indigenous Peoples. It is a time to come together in recognition, awareness, and support of the message that Every Child Matters as we continue the journey of Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

This year, we are proud to share two meaningful Orange Shirt Day designs created by Rhiannon DeLuca, a young local Métis artist from District 3.

Rhiannon shared:

“My name is Rhiannon DeLuca, and I am a young Métis artist from District 3. It was a pleasure to create these Orange Shirt Day designs and bring meaningful stories and symbolism into the artwork. When developing the designs, I wanted to create something that was simple yet meaningful. I asked my mom for some inspiration, and the idea to incorporate Phyllis Webstad as her younger self came from her. Since Orange Shirt Day is rooted in Phyllis’s story, I felt this was a beautiful way to honour her experience. The second design represents the universal act of giving an orange shirt. I saw it as a connection between Phyllis’s grandmother giving her the orange shirt and people today continuing to give orange shirts as a symbol of remembrance, awareness, and solidarity. I hope these designs help honour Phyllis’s story while reminding us of the importance of continuing to listen, learn, and remember.”

All proceeds from purchases made through Mountain West Promotions with the new design will go directly towards the Mountain View Moccasin House.

Orders must be placed by September 22nd at noon. Orders will be completed and available for pick up by September 25th. You will receive an email when your order is complete.

Our Back to School Supply Drive was a HUGE success today in Olds! 🎒✏️📚

Thank you to everyone who came out, purchased school supplies, and donated to support kids and families in Olds & Area. Your generosity will help make sure local kids have the supplies they need to start the school year off right!

Movie in the Park is tonight at Rotary Park showing Zootopia 2! Free hotdogs 5:30-6:30! Movie starts at 6:30. Make sure to get there and grab your spot before 6:30, bring chairs, blankets! Concession items will also be available! See you there!! 🍿☀️
