In an Eastern US prison:

Studies through the Stranger on the Road to Emmaus have taken on a life of their own. Inmates who indicate they are “Christian” upon incarceration are allowed to gather in an open area that is surrounded by 20 cells to study Christian materials. They read The Stranger out loud together. The chaplain says that she’s seen a high number of prisoners change their stated religion to Christian after being exposed to the teaching in the prison. While exact numbers are difficult to know, it is clear to those working with the inmates that many have truly become believers through their studies through The Stranger. It’s also clear that the impact has carried beyond this prison into others through prisoner transfers and into the lives of family members outside of prison walls.

A request of a female prisoner in a central US prison to the chaplain:

“Is there any way that I might have the book The Stranger? I’ve gotten to read a chapter and it’s the best Jesus book I’ve come across. I would like this book very much.”

Are you puzzled about worldviews? Perhaps the topic just adds another confusing layer to the challenge of sharing the gospel. At the very least, being worldview sensitive may seem to add a lot of extra time and effort. Is it really that important?

At GoodSeed, we believe that taking into account a person’s worldview is similar to sharing the gospel in a language they understand well. It can make all the difference between a fuzzy or a crystal clear gospel.

Does this mean you need to take hours to study different worldviews and become an expert in world religions? Not at all!

GoodSeed’s purpose is to supply believers with materials that communicate the gospel clearly to the major worldviews, addressing hang-ups and questions typical to those perspectives. All you need to know is, “Which book for which worldview?” and “What is my friend’s worldview?”

The next few e-newsletters will take a look at questions you can ask, both to direct conversation towards spiritual things, and also to discern the worldview of the friend you’re trying to reach. We’ll look at materials that are written very carefully to address common areas of confusion without attacking a person’s worldview.

In the meantime, a good starting place with any worldview can be to pose the question, “If the Bible is one of the most influential books in history, shouldn’t you look into it?” The booklet "No Ordinary Book" is a great place to start. Learn more:

Many Christian commentators have noted a recent shift in Western culture towards a search for established truth and spirituality. While this doesn’t mean more people are necessarily becoming believers, many do seem to be finding certain tenets of Christianity attractive. Below are two recent stories that speak to this shift.

1. According to a Fox News story, 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠. Why is this? It seems younger generations raised in a post-Christian world are “𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and a sense of direction.” Since the Bible has been “the main source of meaning, purpose, value… 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞..."

2. Niall Ferguson has added his name to a growing list of avowed 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨’𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐝 and turned to Christianity in some form or another. Many outspoken “New Atheists” of 15-20 years ago seem to be gaining 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 and aren’t shy about expressing this evolution in their thinking.

Of course, simply buying a Bible or acknowledging there is a God won’t bring about the kind of personal transformation that our broken world is so desperate for.

But, if that Bible’s message was clear and that God was understood in a way that makes sense, the statistics above might transform into something that has real eternal significance. It seems like the time is ripe for these sorts of interactions.

Not to send anyone into a panic, but… Christmas is coming! And it’s not too early to plan how you can intentionally use the Christmas season as an “in” to reach those around you with the gospel.

A number of years ago, a man with a heart for evangelism proposed a challenge he and many others faced, as well as a solution.

Challenge: “So many of my neighbours, co-workers, people I rub shoulders with don’t know what the real meaning of Christmas or Easter is.”

Solution: “What if GoodSeed created a small booklet that could explain these two holidays and weave in the Gospel message around them.”

Thus What are Christmas & Easter all About? was created to address this need. Written in EasyEnglish and with colour pictures, it is a favourite for giving away en-masse during the holidays. GoodSeed also created a less-expensive book, The Story that Matters, with black-and-white line-art.

Equip2Serve is using the tool of choice for teaching in this worldview. It is a book called "By This Name," and in explaining the story of the Bible from creation to the Cross, it addresses issues that fog the message.
You can see the teachers are team-teaching using the Leader's Guide as the students follow along in the textbook. In the process, they cover well over 1500 Bible verses explained in context. The staff at GoodSeed feel privileged to have a part in this vital ministry.
