Well said…
On a recent podcast episode of Beyond the Ring, Rash and Hummel discussed Attainable Goals. It got me thinking about how our “wins” have changed over the years. From dominating 4 out of 5 D1 classes in Louisville (back when a string of 18 was fun and it took two days to show the Simmentals), to now high fiving and celebrating our 9yr old successfully getting a new heifer in and out of ring without a wreck. Don’t get me wrong, we all still drive for those big banners, but perspectives as a whole have definitely changed.
Maybe it’s experience, maybe it’s the current state of the world, or maybe it’s just flat-out age that has made us value the string of “little wins” as much as the big ones and trying to teach our child that every day has its “wins”. Yes, we got hit by a tornado and our shed is wrecked... but all the cows are fine….that’s a win. Picky heifer actually ate all her feed this morning…that’s a win. PR on the field this week….that’s a win. Annoying kid in your pod quit talking for once….WIN! Seeing all the Jr National tee shirts at school…BIG WIN!
In today’s ongoing mental health crisis, teach your kids to find the small “wins” in life. Better yet, ask them when they get home from school what their “win” was for the day… You may be surprised at some of their answers and ultimately learn more about what’s important to them. 🤍
