Today at approx 3:30pm our department responded to a structure fire in our district. We activated mutual aid with Oliver fire department, who sent an interior attack team and a RIT team. With the quick response of our hall and coordination with Oliver, the fire was knocked down quickly and prevented the spread to the entire house. We appreciate our mutual aid partners and will continue working towards achieving our own interior certification.

“Works well with others” is an important quality in firefighters!

Today marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day, including 343 members of the FDNY, along with law enforcement officers, paramedics and other first responders who answered the call.

We also remember those who worked at Ground Zero in the days and months that followed, many of whom later lost their lives or continue to live with the effects of their service.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 remains a powerful reminder of courage, sacrifice and the commitment firefighters make to one another and to the communities we serve.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

As our department continues to respond to the Bald Range wildfire near Summerland, we want to sincerely thank our community for the incredible support, encouragement and food that has been provided to our members. Your kindness has meant a great deal to everyone at the department.

Update on highway 97 through Summerland.

Highway 97 is open for through traffic only between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Road restrictions are in place. Follow the signs and directions of all emergency personnel as you drive through the corridor.

- There is NO ACCESS to any of the side roads to enter Evacuation Orders areas, without a valid RDOS Temporary Access Pass (TAP).
- Those with a Temporary Access Pass will be provided with information about which access point to use.
- Speed limits have been reduced to 70 km/h
- The Highway will be open to public traffic from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each day to allow crews access to continue work overnight.
- Do not arrive before opening time.

If the situation changes, the highway may be closed again with limited notice. Be prepared.

Our crews continue to work the Bald Range fire near Summerland. We appreciate everyone’s support and outreach - if we aren’t responding to messages and queries, it’s only because we’re very busy with everything going on. The RDOS EOC in Penticton may be aware of needs/volunteer opportunities for people wanting to help. Thank you!

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicles are prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.

Our crews remain on the Bald Range fire near Summerland tonight, while maintaining a response-ready level of protection in the Okanagan Falls fire district. We are staying safe out there and appreciate the outpouring of support we’ve received!

Our fire department has responded tonight to the fire in Summerland with a bush truck, a tender and six members. We will always ensure we have a staffed and ready hall to protect our own district, and are happy to also be able to support our neighbours tonight.
