"The council has decided your fate." 🧙‍♂️

In this case, the council is the Airport Management Council of Ontario, and we've decided that our committees are valuable for networking, advocacy, and sharing ideas. 🌟

AMCO currently has three active committees: Government Relations, Small Airports & Aerodromes, and the Transport Canada Civil Aviation + Operations. Enthusiastic members with a passion for each topic gather four times a year to discuss timely and relevant topics. Sometimes, when a matter is especially important, members gather for special sittings.

Committees are mostly led by members of the Board of Directors so that reports can be shared at the highest level of the association. For those who attend AMCO events like the Spring Airfield Workshop and the Annual Convention and Trade Show, you hear committee updates as well.

Join us over the next couple of weeks as we feature each committee. If you are interested in joining one, let the AMCO Office know, we'd love to have you!

Last week the IAAE Canada and AMCO cohosted a condensed 2 day TP 312 5th Ed. course. Many thanks go to Michael Lucking and Region of Waterloo International Airport for welcoming the group to your airport and for sharing your knowledge with students from across the country. Called a "fantastic" course by participants, we are so glad we can share these opportunities with airport professionals!

Name: Rob Shevalier
Mission: Representing the business members and their interests on the AMCO Board of Directors
Rob acts as the liaison between AMCO's business member community and the AMCO Board of Directors. He hears the ideas for Convention and what businesses are hoping to get from their membership and brings this information to the board to ensure value for everyone. The insights he shares have been instrumental in enhancing event programs and benefits!

AMCO is stronger by having him on the board and sharing how we can bring continued value to all members.

Mission: Representing airports and registered aerodromes in the northwest on the AMCO Board of Directors

Shari acts as the North Star of the northwest! 🌟 She is a steadfast advocate for the region. Shari sees the benefit of enhancing connections across the northwest to ensure a strong network is ready to serve the local communities. After all, it takes many stars to make a constellation. ✨

Welcome to another AMCO Career Spotlight! ✨

This week, we meet Allison Couch M.AvMgt - a First Officer on the Airbus 330!

Allison continues to advance in her remarkable career. In her interview, read all about her growth as an aviation professional as well as a person. Her story is such an exciting one that should be shared with anyone considering their place in the industry.

Here's another fun fact: Allison was the AMCO Sponsored Student at the 2010 Convention in Kenora! She is yet another example of how students who have gone through the program have gone on to excellent careers and continue to forge new paths.

Once again, we’re opening the AMCO Regional Director files, and learning about the intelligent life representing Ontario’s airports. 👽

Name: Giovanna Verrilli

Mission: Representing airports and registered aerodromes in the northeast on the AMCO Board of Directors

How does she view the mission? Giovanna notes, “One of the things I enjoy most about serving on the AMCO Board is the opportunity to work alongside airport leaders from across Ontario who are passionate about strengthening regional aviation. Regional airports play an essential role in connecting communities, supporting economic development, and ensuring people have access to opportunities, services, and each other. Proud to be part of the conversation and the work being done to support the future of our industry.”

Fun Fact about the Region: Giovanna shares, “A cool fact about Greater Sudbury is that it is home to one of the world's largest meteorite impact sites. Roughly 1.8 billion years ago, a massive meteor struck the area, creating the Sudbury Basin. That same geological event is largely responsible for the rich deposits of nickel, copper, and other critical minerals that have made Sudbury one of the world's leading mining centres and a key player in the global transition to clean energy.”
