Nipissing Trackers

The Nipissing Trackers is a volunteer organization in North Bay, ON that teaches special needs children to ski at Laurentian Ski Hill.

Nipissing Trackers is a downhill skiing program for special needs children. It is run by volunteers, who dedicate 7 Sundays to teach. They spend the first 2 Sundays in training, learning how to use the special equipment needed for some students. The special equipment includes poles and bi-skies. They also learn about how to interact with students with special needs. Our instructors are volunteers with varying backgrounds and ages. We have some who are certified through the Track 3 training program to ski with special needs students, we have some who are Level 1 and Level 2 Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance certified and we have others who simply have a passion for skiing and want to encourage the sport. All of our volunteer instructors are wonderful people who work very hard and we are very lucky to have them. They work magic with the kids and are the heart of the program. The remaining 5 Sundays of the season are spent with the children. Special needs children aged 6 and up participate in the program. They may have physical or development disabilities or both. They spend an hour with specialized individual instruction. They may have one or even two instructors assigned to them. We also allow a family member to ski with the student.

Well it’s getting very close to that time of year again. We are actively seeking individuals who would be interested in volunteering with us. You need to be proficient enough to ski backwards comfortably. No need for any certifications and such. If you are interested please email us at

[email protected]

This program is to teach youth, with varying diabilities, how to ski. It is very rewarding just to see the smiles on our students faces.

After contacting us we can give you all the details of the program.

Thank You

Well we are putting a call out to anyone who would be interested in getting involved with Trackers as a volunteer instructor.

Presently we have 58 students registered in our program but we don’t have enough instructors to accommodate that number so there may be some disappointed kids .

You don’t have to be a certified ski instructor just able to ski ( forward and backward)

If you are interested email us at [email protected]

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you about the passing of Jack Lyons. My name is Martial Gerolami and I am the coordinator of the Nipissing Trackers. I had the great pleasure of meeting Jack about 7 yrs ago when I joined the Trackers family. I have known his father, Mark, for many years through George Stockfish Ford but I had never met his family until I joined Trackers. The Lyons’ are a great family and very involved in the community. Mark, Leslie and Hannah would bring Jack out every Sunday to ski with our program. Most times afterwards they would be rushing to hockey practice or to a Battalion game which were two of Jacks other loves. Jack had a smile that could brighten anyone's day. He loved to ski and was improving every year. Jack could look at you with a smile and then steal your cookies, he loved cookies especially if they were yours. I never minded if he took mine. Jack you will be dearly missed in our program and you will be in our thoughts every year. To Mark, Leslie and Hannah just know that he is in a good place being taken care of and that he will be in your hearts forever. God bless all of you. 🙏💙
