Nipissing Trackers

Nipissing Trackers is a downhill skiing program for special needs children. It is run by volunteers, who dedicate 7 Sundays to teach. They spend the first 2 Sundays in training, learning how to use the special equipment needed for some students. The special equipment includes poles and bi-skies. They also learn about how to interact with students with special needs. Our instructors are volunteers

with varying backgrounds and ages. We have some who are certified through the Track 3 training program to ski with special needs students, we have some who are Level 1 and Level 2 Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance certified and we have others who simply have a passion for skiing and want to encourage the sport. All of our volunteer instructors are wonderful people who work very hard and we are very lucky to have them. They work magic with the kids and are the heart of the program. The remaining 5 Sundays of the season are spent with the children. Special needs children aged 6 and up participate in the program. They may have physical or development disabilities or both. They spend an hour with specialized individual instruction. They may have one or even two instructors assigned to them. We also allow a family member to ski with the student.
