A heartfelt thank you to Prospera for contributing $2,000 to help bring our new uptown New Westminster Family Place to life! ♥️ Their team, and future neighbours, recently joined us outside our soon-to-open Princess Street location to celebrate this generous gift!

As rising material costs stretch our opening budget, this support helps us put the finishing touches on a welcoming space where families can play, connect, learn and find community. We’re so grateful to Prospera and the businesses and organizations helping us open our doors!

Every child finds their own way to play, explore and connect. 🩷

Thrive Together is a small, welcoming playgroup for families with children who may benefit from a little extra support. Together, we enjoy playtime and a snack while building a comfortable routine.

Family Place staff and our partners from Kinsight are there to support and encourage parents along the way. If you have questions about your child’s development or your family’s support needs, Kinsight staff are available to listen and talk with you.

We know that finding support and waiting for appointments can take time. Thrive Together offers a chance to connect and start a conversation in a relaxed setting while your child plays.

Local supports, thousands of people, one shared commitment: thriving BC families. 💜

Behind every number is a family finding connection and the services they need, a volunteer showing up, a staff member creating a welcoming space, and a community working together to support young children and families.

And this is just part of the story. During , we’re celebrating the people and programs that make this work possible, and raising the profile of Family Resource Programs, like New West Family Place, across BC.

There isn’t one funding model for FRPs, like Family Place, in BC. Many programs piece together funding from several different sources to respond to the needs of families in their communities and make their programs work.

Most funding comes through the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development and the Public Health Agency of Canada, including its Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP).

But it takes many partners to keep welcoming, low-barrier Family Resource Programs available in BC communities.

During , we’re recognizing not only the work happening inside FRPs like New West Family Place, but the many partnerships that help make that work possible. You can join us by:

Families today are constantly being asked to do more with less. Less time, less connection, less support – and for many, fewer opportunities where they can simply show up, belong, and be together.

💜 That’s where Family Resource Programs (FRPs) like New West Family Place come in.

From October 19-23, we’re celebrating BC’s first-ever Family Resource Program Week. It’s a time to shine the spotlight on the incredible impact that FRPs have on BC children and families.

It’s also a time to advocate for support.

Sustainable funding is an ongoing challenge for Family Resource Programs in BC. Without adequate financial support, it becomes increasingly difficult to purchase essential program supplies, provide nutritious meals and snacks, and maintain the program hours that families rely on.
