EDEN GARDENS
Gardening/Horticulture Assistant
Eden Gardens is seeking dedicated and compassionate volunteers to support the care of the outdoor gardens spaces at Eden Gardens. The outdoor garden spaces are therapeutic spaces with garden beds, fruit trees/berries, a koi pond and walking paths. Volunteers in this role will help ensure the outdoor garden spaces are consistently watered, maintained, weeded, and thriving. There may also be opportunities to be involved in special planting/gardening projects with elders. Skills and abilities required are knowledge of vegetable/flower gardening, horticulture, pruning, weeding and general garden-related maintenance. Volunteers for this position would also need comfort and compassion when interacting with elders, including individuals with dementia. Dementia specific training will be provided; however, a strong interest in engaging with elderly individuals is must. Reliability, punctuality, and consistency in attendance is required, as well as patience, attentiveness and a kind, respectful manner, the ability to work independently, and as part of a team, and a willingness to ask for help and clarification when needed.
