Nanaimo South End Community Association

Nanaimo South End Community Association SECA is a volunteer-run, non-profit, non-partisan group that works to uplift the South End neighbourhood located in Nanaimo, BC. Check here for updates!

There's always something happening - we meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6.30 PM.

Do you have a question related to our South End neighbourhood you'd like to ask of all candidates running in the 2026 municipal elections for Mayor and Council in Nanaimo?

SECA are running a short survey of all registered candidates after nominations close on September 11. We will post all responses we receive by October 1 and give you a chance to see who is saying what about key South End issues.

But first! Please send in your questions for consideration. The SECA board will log all of them and select 3 - 5 that we feel best represent pressing issues in our neighbourhood, and put these to all candidates. We'll store the rest in a memory bank for reference later, so all the questions are golden!

We welcome questions by DM, in this chat, or by email at [email protected] until midnight September 11, so please have a think and send us a query or three!

It goes without saying, but we'll say it for full disclosure: questions need to be respectful and focus on issues. If a question or post falls outside of what meets this criteria, we will either reword it or not consider it, so please save us all some time and keep to the high road!

SECA will not be endorsing any candidates but are hearty supporters of getting folks good information and logistics details to get out the vote.

You've got about two weeks to consider what you feel is important - go!

We hope you're staying cool out there today!

Beat the heat (please come with water and sun protection and a lawn chair or picnic blanket if you can/want!) and join us in Deverill Square Park TODAY from 6 - 7 PM to take in Tangible Two as part of the City of Nanaimo's Concert in the Park 2026 series. Below is a lil' bit more about this hip-hop duo:

Tangible Two is the dynamic rap duo redefining their lane. Wheat Stalk and Bagshaw joined forces over a decade ago, blending sharp lyricism with high‑voltage stage energy. Their electrifying live shows, genre‑bending production, and collaborations with renowned artists have cemented them as a powerful, influential force in the rap world. With a sound that’s both raw and refined, they continue to push boundaries and elevate every stage they touch.

More info on the series is available here: https://www.nanaimo.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-events/concerts-in-the-park

See you tonight!

Have you noticed some of these little patches of the pollinator patch-way on Irwin Street? South End resident Jesse Gray has been busy designing, photographing and reaching out to neighbours for this project - this article is a great plug for her work, and the possibilities of pollinator gardens in the South End!

Search this for the story: A “patchwork” of urban native plant gardens will begin springing up this fall throughout Nanaimo’s Old City Quarter, as part of Nanaimo Area Land Trust’s pollinator patchwork project.

Did you know that the City of Nanaimo hosts regular free concerts in parks around the city all summer? What now? Yes, it's true!

Please see this link ( https://www.nanaimo.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-events/concerts-in-the-park ) for the full line up for the summer but mark your calendar for the one in Deverill Park on Wednesday, July 22 with Tangible Two performing from 6 - 7 PM.

We're so stoked to have this event at the park, and are thrilled the event takes place just before Snuneymuxw First Nation's Snuneymuxw Days 2026 kick off July 24 - 26, 2026. So much going on this summer!

Join us this spring and summer for concerts in Nanaimo's beautiful parks featuring a variety of local musicians.

UPDATE: It looks dope! Here are some pictures that don't do it justice - loop by on your evening walk sometime soon!

If you're in the Old City this weekend, and/or seeking out a chance to paint on the road (who isn't??), make sure to stop by our neighbours at the Nanaimo Old City Association - NOCA who are hosting, with the City of Nanaimo, the painting of the Campbell Street and Machleary Street intersection.

The community is using a design developed by Sebastian Abboud, and we're all invited to help paint it on! This event is part of a series of intersection painting that is happening maybe in the South End as well in the near future, so wear some clothes that can get paint on them and get a sneak peak this Sunday, July 5, anytime from 10 AM to 2 PM.
