We were so honored to host the Adventures by Disney tour bus at the Wood Islands Lighthouse this past Friday! 🏰✨

Our young-at-heart guests didn't just tour the historic tower—they also built their own kites, and Mother Nature delivered the perfect breeze for them to test out their creations right on the grounds. 🪁💨

🎉 150 Years & Counting! 🎉

Yesterday’s 150th Anniversary Celebration and Grand Re-Opening at the Wood Islands Lighthouse was an incredible success! Blue skies, warm sunshine, and a fantastic crowd made for a truly perfect day. ☀️✨

A sincere thank you to the Hon. Darlene Compton and MP Kent MacDonald for joining us to officially cut the ribbon and mark this major milestone. ✂️🔴

This event wouldn't have been possible without our dedicated volunteers. To everyone who has worked tirelessly over the past 40 years to preserve, restore, and protect this treasured landmark—thank you. Your passion keeps our history alive!

We also want to extend a huge shoutout to our outstanding lighthouse staff. Your hard work in maintaining the grounds and welcoming thousands of visitors every season keeps the site shining bright.

The Wood Islands Lighthouse is turning 150, and we're celebrating with a grand re-opening party on Saturday August 15th at 1pm. Join us for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase our freshly restored lighthouse, enjoy inspiring keynote speakers, and take a free tour of the museum. Oh, and did we mention there'll be birthday cake? Come celebrate 150 years of community history with us.

🎈 We had some very special guests drop by yesterday! 🎈

The wonderful folks from Adventures by Disney paid us a visit, and we had an absolute blast showing them around!

Not only did they get an exclusive tour of our beautifully restored lighthouse, but they also channeled their inner creators with a hands-on kite building activity. Mother Nature got the memo, too—providing the perfect breeze to get those newly built kites soaring high! 🪁💨

We had just as much fun hosting as they did making memories, and we already can't wait to welcome them back.

The Wood Islands Lighthouse was one of the last three lighthouses to have resident keepers on PEI. The others were East Point and Souris East. Here is a photo of the lighthouse in 1965 with the keeper's laundry hanging on the clothesline.
